Avi’s swashbuckling tale of murder and mutiny on the high seas has a fascinating twist: the heroine is a 13-year-old girl. In 1832, Charlotte Doyle boards a ship bound for America and is caught in a battle between a mad captain and his ruthless crew. If you’re looking for an action-packed adventure story for girls, you’ll find it in The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle.

What did you like about this audiobook?

    I didn't finish the book.

How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?

I will make sure I won't buy another book with this reader.

Does the author present information in a way that is interesting and insightful, and if so, how does he achieve this?

Yes. I have read this book in the past, so obviously I was interested enough to listen to the audio version.

What did you find wrong about the narrator's performance?

    The narrator Inhales loudly. constantly!
I did not go beyond the first 5 minutes of the book because the reader just totally inhales very loud. I skipped ahead to chapter 7 to see if she changed her performance and she was still making the noise.

Do you have any additional comments?

I am sorry I spent money on the book. I wont listen to it later either because of the narrators poor performance. I think I should get a refund!

He would have to fight through hordes of undead, merciless other survivors, and a series of death defying stunts to get home. However, even if he makes it there, how can he be sure they're safe? Deadlocked puts you into David's head as he struggles to get home. Then a final confrontation occurs that could guarantee his family's survival, but at what cost?

Would you try another book from A.R. Wise and/or Brian Sutherland?

No, I won't. Why sprinkle a good story with curse words when the story itself can stand alone without it?

What other book might you compare Deadlocked 1 to and why?

    I didn't finish the book.

    Which scene was your favorite?

Every part that I listened to was well written and narrarated.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Deadlocked 1?

    None.

    Any additional comments?

Don't lower your ability to tell a good story by fitting in curse words and the f word every chance you get. Mr. Wise, I would love to listen to your work but you ruined it with the language you chose to use needlessly.

Jemmy, once a poor boy living on the streets, now lives in a castle. But as the whipping boy, he bears the punishment when the prince misbehaves, as such; the two boys have little in common and even less reason to like one another.

Marci Lewellen says: "Whole family will enjoy this one..."

What made the experience of listening to The Whipping Boy the most enjoyable?

The energy the reader put into the story.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Whipping Boy?

All of it was so good, it is hard to narrow down a specific moment.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. I have 14 kids (ages 1-13 years old) living with me and we had to stop and back up and move the story forward as different kids were ready to listen to the story.

    Any additional comments?

I had read the book a few years ago so I was eager to purchase the audiobook for my struggling readers.
