On the eve of her 19th birthday, the vivacious Caroline Derwent-Jones looks forward to being free of her oafish guardian, Mr. Ffalkes. But Mr. Ffalkes has other plans for Caroline and her inheritance, so Caroline must escape. In her flight, Caroline encounters Lord Chilton of Mount Hawke, Frederic North Nightingale, and finds herself tangled in mystery and romance.

This book is light but good listening for a raining afternoon.
Unfortunately the reader's rendition of the male voices sounded female which made any and all of the reading of the interaction between male and female hard to follow.

Jonas Quarrel was lean, sexy, and equally capable of quoting Renaissance poetry or wielding a dagger. Verity Ames knew Jonas was the perfect partner for an affair - and that he was not the marrying kind. Before long he would be looking for new excitement, leaving Verity behind to run her gourmet restaurant in a California resort, hold on to misty colored memories, and wonder what she was going to do if she were pregnant with his child.

"terrible, do not waste your money!"

I only made it to the 3rd chapter and the narrator was getting on my nerves so I stopped the story and will not return to it at all.
Would not give it even 1 star but could not due to the way the system works.

When Ryder Sherbrooke finds a child nearly beaten to death in an alley in Eastbourne, he takes her home to Brandon House. She doesn't speak for six months. Her first words, oddly enough, are a haunting song.

Terrible, I really thought that I was "Alice" and truly fell into the rabbit's hold after just one chapter.
The other books in the "Brides Series" were a light fun read, but this one should never have been written.
There are no zeros in the rating so I had no choice but to give 1 star rating.
