Scott Brick sure makes a mess of this reading -- it would be easier to enjoy if there was no attempt to find "character voices". The story is not very captivating either.

Thanks Audible. I have been able to enjoy this book due to the great reading of Peter Joyce. I had tried several times to listen to this book by a different narrator but without success.

The privileged world of horse racing, filled with sleek thoroughbreds, burnished leather, and the silken sheen of jockeys’ colors, is a wonderful place to spend a few hours. Let best-selling, internationally-popular author Dick Francis take you to the immaculate stables of the de Brescou estate, where dark forces are lurking. Someone is killing the de Brescou racehorses with a “bolt” gun, shooting them silently, leaving no clues. Before the noble family, which includes his fiancée, is torn apart, jockey Kit Fielding must find the assassin.

    Story

This was one of my first audible purchases many moons ago when it came out on cassette and was abridged at that time. I have been hoping that it would eventually come out unabridged and be read by Tony Britton -- who I think does a great job with the Dick Francis stories. I am still looking forward to hearing it even with a different narrator. Thanks so much for bringing out one of the "archive" stories. I hope you will also produce the sequel "Break In".

In this sequel to The Scarlet Pimpernel, Sir Percy Blakeney's arch-enemy travels to England in pursuit of the impudent enemy of the French Republic. Monsieur Chauvelin devises a dastardly plot to annihilate, once and for all, both Sir Percy and his beautiful wife, Marguerite. Lured to France, where the entire town of Boulogne is held hostage on their behalf, they seem to be hopelessly trapped. Will the Scarlet Pimpernel prevail?

I have read and listened to Scarlet Pimpernel many times. Elusive Pimpernel picks up where Scarlet Pimpernel leaves off. A very enjoyable book -- well written and the narrator is excellent. An easy listen.
