Entrepreneurs are always on the go, looking for the next "startup" challenge. And while they lead very intensely rewarding lives, time is always short and relationships are often long-distant and stressed. In Startup Life, Brad Feld - a Boulder, Colorado-based entrepreneur turned-venture capitalist - shares his own personal experiences with his wife, Amy, offering a series of rich insights into successfully leading a balanced life as a human being who wants to play as hard as he works and who wants to be as fulfilled in life and in work.

    Story
What did you like best about this story?

I liked the honest dialogue from Brad's and Amy's marriage with more stories from other entrepreneur couples. This book is different than most relationship books because it deals specifically with the entrepreneur couple. This is not just fluff, Brad has done his research on entrepreneur relationships.

Which character – as performed by Brad Feld – was your favorite?

My favorite entrepreneur character (don't remember his name) who stayed with his wife when she was sick vs. finishing hike to top of mountain. I don't want to spoil the story!

What insight do you think you’ll apply from Startup Life?

There are basic communication tools that can be used in relationships with spouse to deal with conflict or meltdowns. Brad and Amy have a great way of helping each other through meltdowns

We are stuck, stymied, frustrated. But it needn't be this way. There is a formula for success that's been followed by the icons of history - from John D. Rockefeller to Amelia Earhart to Ulysses S. Grant to Steve Jobs - a formula that let them turn obstacles into opportunities. Faced with impossible situations, they found the astounding triumphs we all seek.

If you could sum up The Obstacle Is the Way in three words, what would they be?

    Guidebook to overcoming

What other book might you compare The Obstacle Is the Way to and why?

David and Goliath: Underdogs, Misfits, and the Art of Battling Giants. They are both looking at historical figures and how they figured out a way to overcome obstacles.

What about Ryan Holiday’s performance did you like?

Tim Ferriss interviewed him afterwards that highlighted influences, work ethic, and personality.
