Four days before Christmas in 1943, a badly damaged American bomber struggled to fly over wartime Germany. At its controls was a 21-year-old pilot. Half his crew lay wounded or dead. It was their first mission. Suddenly a sleek, dark shape pulled up on the bomber’s tail - a German Messerschmitt fighter. Worse, the German pilot was an ace, a man able to destroy the American bomber with the squeeze of a trigger.

    Story
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely would recommend the book to a friend, an acquaintance and even a stranger. When written correctly, stories of real events surpass anything a novel can offer. Makos achieves, if not surpasses this hurdle. He does a fantastic job turning historic events into an engaging story of camaraderie, survival and honor on both sides of the conflict. Those who know little, or think they knew something about WWII will find out information they never knew before about how both sides felt and operated during the war. You will be surprised and amazed.

What did you like best about this story?

The story clearly demonstrates that not all Germans were Nazis, a common mis-conception that most people have about those who served in the German military. The pilots in particular were honorable men who fought for their country, their honor, for each other, and not for their insane leaders.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    WWII as never before portrayed..

A master storyteller as well as a leading energy expert, Yergin shows us how energy is an engine of global political and economic change. It is a story that spans the energies on which our civilization has been built and the new energies that are competing to replace them. From the jammed streets of Beijing to the shores of the Caspian Sea, from the conflicts in the Mideast to Capitol Hill and Silicon Valley, Yergin takes us into the decisions that are shaping our future.
