"Loved it!"
First of all, this is one of my most favorite Nancy Drew books so I was very excited to see it in audio form. I was not disappointed! The narrator, Laura Linney, is just perfect. Her tone of voice, the speed of her reading, the background music...it all made for a very entertaining and thrilling listen. I was able to vividly picture in my own mind everything that was being read to me. A definite must have!
"You get what you pay for..."
For the price, you get less than 20 minutes of what seems to be clips and pieces of interviews from the Spice Girls. It was somewhat enjoyable but there were several times when I thought I heard the same quotes being replayed. Oh well, I'm a huge Spice Girls fan, so I'm glad I gave it a listen. It's nothing spectacular, but hey, it's only 18 minutes of your life. Basically, listen to it if you're curious. If not, you haven't missed anything.
"Disappointed."
This is a very good Nancy Drew mystery story, but I have to say, the narrator, Danica Reese, just ruined it for me. She tried to give each character a different voice and it just made it hard to listen to because after a while, she would sometimes get confused with character voices or else I'd forget whose voice was whose. It was just distracting. And her tone of voice is not that convincing or engaging. It's a bit monotonous. Also, there is no background music to help engage the excitement of certain highlights in the story. It was very disappointing. I found myself wanting the story to be over. I'd much rather read the book than listen to this narrator.
"Pretty good."
I have no complaints about the narrator, Laura Linney. She is a great reader and engages the audience very well. And the background music adds to the mystery and excitement. I only gave this 4 stars though because the storyline wasn't my favorite. It was catchy in the beginning, but as the case progressed, it became a little dull. Still, a good, entertaining way to spend 2+ hours of your time. I recommend it.
"Good, but not great."
This is one of those Nancy Drew books that I only read once so when I saw the audio version, I decided to give it a listen because I couldn't really remember the storyline or any other details. The narrator, Laura Linney, is just great (I wish she would narrate all of the ND books) so no complaints there. Unfortunately, though, the storyline of this book just didn't capture my attention very much. Perhaps it was because Bess & George were nowhere to be seen? Yes, I think that's probably what it was. I also had a bit of a harder time visualizing what was being read to me which is normally not the case with other Nancy Drew books. But go on, give it a listen...you might like it more than I did!
"I really wanted to like it..."
I'm a huge fan of JLH but unfortunately the book didn't live up to my expectations. It was a bit superficial for me (for lack of a better term). I wasn't expecting a novel or anything, but some parts of the book just had me going like, "Uh, okay, yeah". What I did love, though, is JLH's sense of humor and the fact that she was the narrator. Her voice is just wonderful to listen to. Buy this if you're a JLH fan. If not, then, don't.
