Mom Of Three

When I was in my late teens and early twenties I feasted on Harlequin Romance Novels ... I bought this book because the story sounded interesting and I was a bit nostalgic for the romance novels of my youth. This book did not live up to my expectations at all...I was disappointed in the main character's behavior. I suppose Lillian Bowman was intended to be "strong willed" but for me she came off as rude and irrational at times. Perhaps its just that now I am 40 instead of 20 so these type novels don't work for me anymore...but it may have just been this novel...I don't know. This is the first of Lisa Kleypas that I have read.

Regarding the narrator...the female characters who were British were done well.... However...the American female accents were just plain whiny, annoying and shrill at times...which was unfortunate because they were the main characters in Book #2. This may have actually played into my ability to enjoy the Audible book.

I must admit, I have not read the first Wallflower installment in this series...having bought this Book #2 "on sale" a couple weeks ago. Perhaps it would have helped if I had formed some attachment to this book's main characters prior to hearing this novel. I have to say, I am tempted to get at least the third in this series because the set up at the end of Book #2 for the next in the series has piqued my curiosity but I am yet still undecided. I'll have to read more reviews.

This book is in the Horror genre but is also a Christian novel? I don't feel like it was effective in either. I am the type who ALWAYS finishes an audio book...however, this one tried my patience. I became annoyed with the author after the first couple hours, debated abandoning my efforts after six and by the time I only had ninety minutes left I was listening just so I could get it over with.

The writing was atrocious at times...perhaps it's just me but I found myself annoyed by the author's over use of "this guy" and several other phrases. I felt cheated the story didn't flow better and irritated the main character made some just plan stupid choices. The ending was lack luster for me. Throughout the story I wondered was the main character being stalked or is he going crazy. I will not give away the ending but even after it was somewhat spelled out I still didn't feel satisfied nor was I convinced.

The narrator...well....he sounded as if he should have been reading a Mickey Spillane novel. He wasn't bad, mind you, just a little over dramatic in the suspenseful voice department for my liking.

All in all... that's 9hrs 23mins of my life I'll never get back.

I had an acquaintance recommend this book to me and I was honestly a little skeptical because I didn't think I would like a book told from a animal's view point. I have got to say that I was enthralled from the opening passage. I fell I'm love with the characters and sincerely dreaded knowing the end of the book was near.

You will not regret the credit nor the time invested.

Regarding the book: I figured it would be the usual formula for a romance novel...going in with that expectation..it was still lacking for me. The heroine was a little too whiney for my tastes.

Regarding the Audible Narration: I have listened to many audible books...this was definitely not the worst but certainly not one of the better ones either. The narrator made the female love interest's voice "lispy" at times which was distracting and a bit confusing because it made her sound too much like her sister's voice. The male voices were mediocre at best and the Texas draw left much to be desired.

Very different than any movie of the subject I've ever seen...but as this is usually the case when it comes to book vs movie I was not surprised. The book was quite enjoyable....I utilized immersion reading on my kindle....reading as well as listening to this book through Audible....the narrator was excellent! I can recommend both.

Okay...I'll admit it...I have enjoyed this story for years...on the big screen...you know... Gwenyth Paltrow as match making Emma...very entertaining. Having said that... I JUST got around to reading this book via Audible and have found this a singular occasion of me enjoying the film more than I did the book.

I know, I know...it's a classic...but to tell you the truth, for me, Emma's character in Jane Austen's novel was SO prejudice and self-righteous I found her annoying to the point it was difficult for me to finish the book. However...I did...and am glad it's behind me. I was surprised at my reaction to this book having enjoyed reading Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice immensely years ago.

The performace of the narrator was excellent, however.

After hearing raving reviews of this book, I took a chance when it went on sale a couple weeks ago and bought the Audiobook.... boy was I glad that I did. I was surprised how very much I liked this novel. Seth Grahame-Smith did a masterful job of weaving fact and fiction to the point you find yourself asking if perhaps Good Ole Abe WAS a vampire hunter!

I bought this book when I was only about half way through "Hard Magic"....and like the first, it does not disappoint being full of action and further character development. I can hardly wait to hear what becomes of these characters I have grown to love so much.

The only negative I would add (and why the performance got a 4 instead of a 5) was that several of the key characters voices were changed and most of them NOT for the good. Jake Sullivan finally sounds Southern without the "dumb as a box of rocks" quality (which was nice)...but Jane has lost her accent (which was unfortunate) and Dan (who is a "Voice" and supposed ex-radio star) is completely monotone which makes the history I know of this character unbelievable now. That said....It was VERY enjoyable as a whole...I just had to put my big girl pants on and accept the changes made by the narrator.

I can hardly wait for the third book!

I usually don't read this genre....magic...monsters...but the reviews of the book / narrator piqued my curiosity. I dove head first into this fun read and am I ever so glad I did. The plot was well thought out and not predictable at all. I particularly enjoyed all the "quotes" from historic people where, in this novel, shows the world we live in's history somewhat altered by the introduction of "Magic" in the late 1800's.

Bronson Pinchot was excellent as the narrator...I hadn't listened to him prior to this but I will be buying the second installment of this series right away and finding others read by him as well.

This was a nice twist on the "fairy tales" most of us have grown up knowing and loving. Please do not mistake this book as only to be enjoyed by a YA / children audience ...If you are open to a silly little fairy tale romp this book is for you.

Bronson Pinchot is an excellent narrator...I first listened to him in the "Grimnoir Chronicles" books by Larry Correia and was enthralled by his diversity with voices...he does not disappoint in this instant either.

I would recommend this book for a light read...it is a nice follow up to a more emotionally taxing story.
