The plot of this book was so gruesome, that it was hard for me to enjoy it. I love the Mallory books but this one I could have skipped.
This book, sequel to "The Lion's Games" was excellent. They were highly recommended to me and I highly recommend them to others. This is not your typical espionage book (I hate those and started not to read it). Both books keep you going to the end. I like this one a little better than the first one, but read them in order. Excellent!
I love this author. She can develop a plot better than any writer I know. I cannot put her books down. Each one is very different from the last. I wish she would write them fasterf!!!
Very badly done. Plot poorly developed. Don't bother with this one. One of those where I felt like I wasted a credit.
This is one of the strangest books I have ever read. The wife who disappears evokes little sympathy. I don't think I could have stood listening to any more of her adultery. The husband was strange, as well. I don't think his reactions were natural at all. Detective Warren gave us too much information on her sex life (or lack thereof). Who cares? And she jumped to the wrong conclusions based on nothing. The women in this book were not likable at all. But then the men weren't likeable either. Everyone had such far-out thoughts and actions that it was quite off-putting. I found the part of the story about the sex offenders offensive and I didn't want to know that much about their thoughts. The most interesting person was the 4-year old but I thought her dialogue was not realistic or natural. All in all, I could not recommend this book.
I hate abridged books and wasn't paying attention when I ordered it. However, it made more sense than most abridged versions.
The characters in this book are so real, so annoying, so obnoxious, that I can picture someone I know in every one of them. The author made no excuses for their oddities and their behaviors. They were just everyday people. But I believe the writing is brilliant. Whether you like the book or not, Franzen did a masterful job of developing characters that are complex yet somewhat unlikeable. They were just themselves and his characterization of each one was consistent. It is not a fun book but it is interesting. I liked the narrator, as well. Good job. I think.
I was not impressed by this book. It is predictable and, at times, tedious. Sorry.
I loved this book. It kept my attention completely. I love the narrator. He is perfect for this book. Being from Texas, his accent seems totally appropriate to me and certainly adds to the book. The dialog sounded spot on and very familiar coming from the South. I am happy to see that this author and narrator teamed upon another selection. Can't wait to listen to it.
This book was not very well written. The dialog was silly and predictable sometimes and the narrator was dreadful. Would not recommend.
I have read the book twice and listened to it once. This book is wonderful, in that it brings you something new, each time you read it or listen to it. I enjoyed listening to the author tell his story, but was disappointed that there was not a version that contained the whole book. It is a great book!
