  • Killing Critics

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs and 17 mins)
    • By Carol O'Connell
    • Narrated By Laural Merlington
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

NYPD sergeant Kathleen Mallory - computer genius, street fighter, provocative waif, peerless investigator, manipulative beauty - is the gorgeous, near-sociopathic heroine of this knife-edged suspense novel. Along with old pals, Ricker, Coffey, and faithful admirer Charles Butler, Mallory is determined to solve the brutal "art as death" murder of an untalented but highly touted artist-critic.

Corinne says: "Narrator is the worst I've heard"
    "I love the Mallory books...but"

The plot of this book was so gruesome, that it was hard for me to enjoy it. I love the Mallory books but this one I could have skipped.

  • The Lion

    • UNABRIDGED (15 hrs and 45 mins)
    • By Nelson DeMille
    • Narrated By Scott Brick
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Detective John Corey now faces his toughest assignment yet: the pursuit and capture of the world's most dangerous terrorist -- a young Arab known as "The Lion" who has baffled a federal task force and shows no sign of stopping in his quest for revenge against the American pilots who bombed Libya and killed his family.

John Robertson says: "What happened to Scott Brick?!!"
    "Loved it."

This book, sequel to "The Lion's Games" was excellent. They were highly recommended to me and I highly recommend them to others. This is not your typical espionage book (I hate those and started not to read it). Both books keep you going to the end. I like this one a little better than the first one, but read them in order. Excellent!

  • Faithful Place: A Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (16 hrs and 17 mins)
    • By Tana French
    • Narrated By Tim Gerard Reynolds
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

New York Times best-selling author Tana French has won the prestigious Edgar, Barry, Macavity, and Anthony awards. As her third novel featuring the Dublin Murder Squad opens, 19-year-old Frank Mackey is waiting in vain for Rosie, who he’s supposed to run away to London with. But when she doesn’t show, Frank leaves Dublin without her—thinking never to return.

    Amazon Customer says: "Incredible"
"Tana French - one of the best authors around"

I love this author. She can develop a plot better than any writer I know. I cannot put her books down. Each one is very different from the last. I wish she would write them fasterf!!!

  • The Surgeon: A Rizzoli & Isles Novel

    • ABRIDGED (5 hrs)
    • By Tess Gerritsen
    • Narrated By Dennis Boutsikaris

Tess Gerritsen was a successful internist who left her practice to focus on her children and her writing. Gerritsen's medical suspense novels have consistently won critical and fan acclaim, and now, with The Surgeon, she delivers her most gripping work.

    Elizabeth says: "The Surgeon"
    "No, thank you."

Very badly done. Plot poorly developed. Don't bother with this one. One of those where I felt like I wasted a credit.

  • The Neighbor: A Detective D. D. Warren Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 28 mins)
    • By Lisa Gardner
    • Narrated By Emily Janice Card, Kirby Heyborne, Kirsten Potter
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

It was a case guaranteed to spark a media feeding frenzy: a young mother, blond and pretty, disappears without a trace from her South Boston home, leaving behind her four-year-old daughter as the only witness and her handsome, secretive husband as the prime suspect. But from the moment Detective Sergeant D. D. Warren arrives at the Joneses - a snug little bungalow, she senses something off about the picture of wholesome normality the couple worked so hard to create.

KSK says: "Listen to "Say Goodbye" first"
    "Absolutely strange."

This is one of the strangest books I have ever read. The wife who disappears evokes little sympathy. I don't think I could have stood listening to any more of her adultery. The husband was strange, as well. I don't think his reactions were natural at all. Detective Warren gave us too much information on her sex life (or lack thereof). Who cares? And she jumped to the wrong conclusions based on nothing. The women in this book were not likable at all. But then the men weren't likeable either. Everyone had such far-out thoughts and actions that it was quite off-putting. I found the part of the story about the sex offenders offensive and I didn't want to know that much about their thoughts. The most interesting person was the 4-year old but I thought her dialogue was not realistic or natural. All in all, I could not recommend this book.

  • The Corrections

    • ABRIDGED (9 hrs)
    • By Jonathan Franzen
    • Narrated By Dylan Baker

The Corrections is a grandly entertaining novel for the new century - a comic, tragic masterpiece about a family breaking down in an age of easy fixes. Richly realistic, darkly hilarious, deeply humane, it confirms Jonathan Franzen as one of our most brilliant interpreters of American society and the American soul.

Charles Michael Elmore says: "A memorable book; flawless narration"
"Tough decision on how many stars..."

I hate abridged books and wasn't paying attention when I ordered it. However, it made more sense than most abridged versions.

The characters in this book are so real, so annoying, so obnoxious, that I can picture someone I know in every one of them. The author made no excuses for their oddities and their behaviors. They were just everyday people. But I believe the writing is brilliant. Whether you like the book or not, Franzen did a masterful job of developing characters that are complex yet somewhat unlikeable. They were just themselves and his characterization of each one was consistent. It is not a fun book but it is interesting. I liked the narrator, as well. Good job. I think.

  • Look Again

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 27 mins)
    • By Lisa Scottoline
    • Narrated By Mary Stuart Masterson
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

When reporter Ellen Gleeson gets a "Have You Seen This Child?" flyer in the mail, she almost throws it away. But something about it makes her look again, and her heart stops - the child in the photo is identical to her adopted son, Will. Her every instinct tells her to deny the similarity between the boys, because she knows her adoption was lawful. But she's a journalist and won't be able to stop thinking about the photo until she figures out the truth.

    Elaine says: "Excellent Book"
    "Just okay. A little disappointing."

I was not impressed by this book. It is predictable and, at times, tedious. Sorry.

  • Down River: A Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs and 21 mins)
    • By John Hart
    • Narrated By Scott Sowers
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Adam Chase has spent the last five years in New York City trying to erase his worst memories and the scorn and abandonment of his family. Then a phone call from his best friend awakens in him a torrent of emotion and pain. Having left North Carolina and its red soil for good, he never thought returning would be easy - and being remembered as a murderer doesn't help much.

Jacqueline says: ""We have to talk" - - - -"
    "Excellent! A winner for me."

I loved this book. It kept my attention completely. I love the narrator. He is perfect for this book. Being from Texas, his accent seems totally appropriate to me and certainly adds to the book. The dialog sounded spot on and very familiar coming from the South. I am happy to see that this author and narrator teamed upon another selection. Can't wait to listen to it.

  • Still Life: A Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 3 mins)
    • By Joy Fielding
    • Narrated By Kymberly Dakin

Beautiful, happily married, and the owner of a successful interior design business, Casey Marshall couldn't be more content with her life, until a car slams into her at almost 50 miles an hour, breaking nearly every bone in her body and plunging her into a coma. Lying in her hospital bed, Casey realizes that although she is unable to see or communicate, she can hear everything.

Erin says: "I Stayed Up ALL Night Listening To This One..."
    "Less than I expected"

This book was not very well written. The dialog was silly and predictable sometimes and the narrator was dreadful. Would not recommend.

  • Blue Like Jazz: Nonreligious Thoughts on Christian Spirituality

    • ABRIDGED (4 hrs and 16 mins)
    • By Donald Miller
    • Narrated By Donald Miller

For anyone wondering if the Christian faith is still relevant in a post-modern culture, for anyone thirsting for a genuine encounter with a God who is real, for anyone yearning for a renewed sense of passion in life...Blue Like Jazz is a fresh and original perspective on life, love, and redemption.

A User says: "Searching for people like me"
"Wish they had an unabridged version"

I have read the book twice and listened to it once. This book is wonderful, in that it brings you something new, each time you read it or listen to it. I enjoyed listening to the author tell his story, but was disappointed that there was not a version that contained the whole book. It is a great book!
