  • Behind the Candelabra: My Life with Liberace

In this unusually frank book Scott Thorson, Liberace's longtime lover, tells all: the good, the bad, and the ugly truths about the legendary entertainer who went to outrageous extremes to prevent public knowledge of his homosexuality. Liberace's unhappy childhood, dominated by a mother determined to force him into a concert career, serves as the prologue for a story that goes on to detail Liberace's early appearances in honky-tonks, his move to New York to seek fame, and, finally, his first booking in Las Vegas, where he was courted by the Mafia.

Jeffrey says: "Viciously honest, candid, sad, fascintating!"

Paul Bäumer is just 19 years old when he and his classmates enlist. They are Germany’s Iron Youth who enter the war with high ideals and leave it disillusioned or dead. As Paul struggles with the realities of the man he has become, and the world to which he must return, he is led like a ghost of his former self into the war’s final hours. All Quiet is one of the greatest war novels of all time, an eloquent expression of the futility, hopelessness and irreparable losses of war.

Where does All Quiet on the Western Front rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This was by hardest the saddest book I've listened to.

What was one of the most memorable moments of All Quiet on the Western Front?

Frank Muller was excellent at pronouncing the various names - he was an excellent narrator.

Which character – as performed by Frank Muller – was your favorite?

    Paul was of course!

    Any additional comments?

I got this book as one of the "Daily Deals" and was very satisfied. Like I said, Frank really gave this book depth. It was so sad, all of war, and Paul's story - although so very sad - was well told through Frank.

"I've experienced a whole lot the last few years and I have a lot to share. So I hope that you'll take a moment to sit back, relax and enjoy the words I've put together for you in this book. I think you'll find I've left no stone unturned, no door unopened, no window unbroken, no rug unvacuumed, no ivories untickled. What I'm saying is, let us begin, shall we?" (Ellen DeGeneres)
