Stephen King returns to the characters and territory of one of his most popular novels ever, The Shining, in this instantly riveting novel about the now middle-aged Dan Torrance (the boy protagonist of The Shining) and the very special 12-year-old girl he must save from a tribe of murderous paranormals. This is an epic war between good and evil, a gory, glorious story that will thrill the millions of hyper-devoted fans of The Shining and wildly satisfy anyone new to the territory of this icon in the King canon.

    Any additional comments?

Not as good as The Shining, yet what could come close, Stephen King accomplished.

One night, Mia enters a bar to meet her on-again, off-again boyfriend. But when he doesn't show, she unwisely leaves with an enigmatic stranger. With his smooth moves and modest wit, Colin Thatcher seems at first like a safe one-night stand. But following Colin home will turn out to be the worst mistake of Mia's life.

This is not Gone Girl this is The Good Girl. The only thing the have In common is the word girl. By itself it reminded me of latter books by Steven King. A well thought out "mystery" woven through wonderful character development. The 4 narrators did s great job! No spoilers here... Just expect a good story.

Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. "Jess and Jason," she calls them. Their life—as she sees it—is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost. And then she sees something shocking. It’s only a minute until the train moves on, but it’s enough. Now everything’s changed. Unable to keep it to herself, Rachel offers what she knows to the police, and becomes inextricably entwined in what happens next, as well as in the lives of everyone involved. Has she done more harm than good? Compulsively readable, The Girl on the Train is an emotionally immersive, Hitchcockian thriller and an electrifying debut.

No subtext in this "mystery" I came up with two very different story lines which could have been a lot more fun. But this novel is just what it appears to be. Nothing twisty or terribly different. A little disappointing to me at least. But a nice way to spend a rainy day listening.

This is pure King prose. Not so much a thriller but more of a character driven mystery. Ok for a quick read but not notable.

Ensign Andrew Dahl has just been assigned to the Universal Union Capital Ship Intrepid, flagship of the Universal Union since the year 2456. Life couldn’t be better…until Andrew begins to pick up on the facts that (1) every Away Mission involves some kind of lethal confrontation with alien forces; (2) the ship’s captain, its chief science officer, and the handsome Lieutenant Kerensky always survive these confrontations; and (3) at least one low-ranked crew member is, sadly, always killed.

I thought the beginning of this book was cute and a little funny but that's all this novel had to offer. It ended up being a long stretch of the same joke(?). You tend to pity the main character more than laugh at him. A little disappointing after reading the main reviews. It wasn't till after I read the book that I saw some of the mediocre reviews. And that's what this novel is... mediocre.

Pirriwee Public's annual school Trivia Night has ended in a shocking riot. One parent is dead. The school principal is horrified. As police investigate what appears to have been a tragic accident, signs begin to indicate that this devastating death might have been cold-blooded murder. In this thought-provoking novel, number-one New York Times best-selling author Liane Moriarty deftly explores the reality of parenting and playground politics, ex-husbands and ex-wives, and fractured families.

I thought this audio book was a cut above most of the other mysteries that are currently available. There is a reason it is on the top ten list. I've recommended it to several friends already. I haven't read any of Liane Moriarty books before, so I was pleasantly surprised by such a well crafted novel. Yes, it is basically about women, but I found it very engrossing. It addresses a few hot topics in child rearing and relationships in a very modern and exciting way. This may not be everyone's cup of tea but if you like a good story, good mystery and thought provoking novel, this book is for you.

Frank Machianno is a late-middle-aged ex-surf bum who runs a bait shack on the San Diego waterfront. An affable Italian with a love of people and life, he's a stand-up businessman, devoted father, and a beloved fixture in the community. He's also a hit man - specifically, a retired hit man. Back in the day when he was one of the most feared members of the West Coast Mafia, he was known as Frankie Machine.

Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive—and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plain old "human error" are much more likely to kill him first. But Mark isn't ready to give up yet. Drawing on his ingenuity, his engineering skills—and a relentless, dogged refusal to quit—he steadfastly confronts one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next. Will his resourcefulness be enough to overcome the impossible odds against him?"

What did you love best about The Martian?

It was a very smart and scientific book that made you think and pay attention, yet had a very fun and funny way of delivering.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Martian?

    No spoilers here.

I rarely give 5 stars for a review but this was an exceptional book. And it was perfect for an audio book. The Narrator was excellent. One of the best audible.com books I've ever read. If you like science with a sense of humor, this book is for you.

From 1999 to 2009, U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle recorded the most career sniper kills in United States military history. The Pentagon has officially confirmed more than 150 of Kyles kills (the previous American record was 109), but it has declined to verify the astonishing total number for this book. Iraqi insurgents feared Kyle so much they named him al-Shaitan ("the devil") and placed a bounty on his head.

What disappointed you about American Sniper?

The "hero" is nothing more than an uneducated killing machine.

Would you ever listen to anything by the authors again?

    no

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of John Pruden?

Anyone trying not to impersonate a Texas accent

    Any additional comments?

If you are in the military you'll probably love this book. I gained a better insight as to how this kind of person thinks and acts. I'm just not very impressed with his glorification of war.
