It was Leigh Novak's second chance. She left behind a faithless husband to begin a new life with her young son Jeremy—as a family doctor in a small northern California town. But Hartwood held a bitter welcome. Leigh's first patient, a child, died mysteriously in her office. And soon Leigh was too busy to spend much time with Jeremy. It seemed her only friend was Nora—the woman who took such good care of the town's little children....

I bought this audiobook for a long drive. If it hadn't been for the fact that there were no radio stations available where I was drving, I would have turned it off after an hour. but i was forced to listed. After about hour 4 it got better, and I was actually interested. I like how the story goes back and forth between scenarios and characters. it did get a little creepy at times which made it entertaining. I just wish there was more of that toward the beginning, this story was very difficult to get interested in. Over all...it was ok.

The life of a 10-year-old black girl is shattered by two drunken and remorseless young men. The mostly white town reacts with shock and horror at the inhuman crime, until her father acquires an assault rifle and takes justice into his own outraged hands.

I thought this was a good pick based on all the amazing reviews. I found myself powering through the bordem thinking it was going to get better. Boring characters, disappointing ending. Although, I suppose this is the reality of getting involved in these types of legal issues. Maybe I was hoping for something a little unrealistic. But even with that said, BORING!

Jodi and Todd are at a bad place in their marriage. Much is at stake, including the affluent life they lead in their beautiful waterfront condo in Chicago, as she, the killer, and he, the victim, rush haplessly toward the main event. He is a committed cheater; she lives and breathes denial. He exists in dual worlds; she likes to settle scores. He decides to play for keeps; she has nothing left to lose. Told in alternating voices, The Silent Wife is about a marriage in the throes of dissolution, a couple headed for catastrophe, concessions that can’t be made, and promises that won’t be kept.

Like many of you, I got pulled in by the, "it's the next Gone Girl" hype. Some similarities but it's definitely no Gone Girl. I couldn't stop talking about that book for a week after I finished it. The Silent Wife sets you up to think there are all sorts of twists and turns, but leaves you dead in your tracks. No big startling ending, and a lot of questions remain unanswered. What's up with the thrush? And where did her friend go? And oh so many more. That was frustrating.
I can't say I regret the use of credit. It kept my attention. The story telling was well done and I was never bored. But not on pins and needles (like I was hoping) either.

So really all I can say is, eh it was ok.

Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten. Insightful, bold, irreverent, and raw, The Fault in Our Stars is award-winning-author John Green’s most ambitious and heartbreaking work yet, brilliantly exploring the funny, thrilling, and tragic business of being alive and in love.

The two-time Emmy Award-winning actress has written her first book, a surprisingly raw and triumphant memoir that is outrageous, moving, sweet, tragic, and heartbreakingly honest. Guts is a true triumph - a memoir that manages to be as frank and revealing as Augusten Burroughs, yet as hilarious and witty as David Sedaris.

Marc Maron was a parent-scarred, angst-filled, drug-dabbling, love-starved comedian who dreamed of a simple life: a wife, a home, a sitcom to call his own. But instead he woke up one day to find himself fired from his radio job, surrounded by feral cats, and emotionally and financially annihilated by a divorce from a woman he thought he loved. He tried to heal his broken heart through whatever means he could find - minor-league hoarding, Viagra addiction, accidental racial profiling, cat fancying, flying airplanes with his mind - but nothing seemed to work. It was only when he was stripped down to nothing that he found his way back.

Really great advice, and very motivating. It's definitely not a "I'm awesome, do like I did" kind of book. This book really makes you think about how we conduct ourselves at work, and gives guidance on how to make proper changes (or at least thinks to think about). As I began this book I was a point where I was being offered a promotion in position but not financially. I was questioning the option to take the position because although it is more demanding, and responsibility it is not more money. She mentioned in this book how sometimes we need to take these positions to learn new skills, and build our resumes. This really hit home and I took the position, and I am very excited to start! I appreciate all the lessons provided in this book. I have recommended it to several friends.

Why we think it’s a great listen: The most celebrated performance in all of Audible’s history, The Help has nearly 2,000 5-star reviews from your fellow listeners. We hear the print book’s not bad, either. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another.

Never mean-spirited or salacious, Lowe delivers unexpected glimpses into his successes, disappointments, relationships, and one-of-a-kind encounters with people who shaped our world over the last 25 years. These stories are as entertaining as they are unforgettable.
