Philip Kerr crafts a thrilling chapter from his critically acclaimed Bernie Gunther series. In Field Gray, Bernie finds himself imprisoned in 1954—and told he can either work for French intelligence or he can hang. Accepting his new job, Bernie begins interviewing POWs returning from Germany. And things get interesting when he meets a French war criminal and member of the French SS who has been posing as a German Wehrmacht officer.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Too much to change. I could find nothing to admire in the main character or the others. After listening for a couple hours I gave up. The language is explicit and disgusting. I would be embarrassed to let this play out loud in the presence of other people.

Would you ever listen to anything by Philip Kerr again?

    Never.

What about Paul Hecht’s performance did you like?

    Was fine.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I've listened to a few other books by Louise Penny. The first one I listened to didn't have the F-word and coarse language, the others did. I'm not going to listen to others.

I have enjoyed many books in this series. First time I've commented on one. I liked it. Good historical color. Honorable character. Believable.

Award-winning author Craig Johnson's critically acclaimed debut Western mystery takes listeners to the breathtaking mountains of Wyoming for a tale of cold-blooded vengeance. Four high-school boys were given suspended sentences for raping a Cheyenne girl. Now, two of the boys have been killed, and only Sheriff Walt Longmire can keep the other two safe.

    "Not Tony Hillerman"
    Overall

I love Tony Hillerman novels and so I had hopes for this series. Good plot and writing. But the language is too jarring for my enjoyment. Too much profanity and use of the F word. I'm disappointed.
