In the Spring of 1857, with India on the brink of a violent and bloody mutiny, Krishnapur is a remote town on the vast North Indian plain. For the British there, life is orderly and genteel. Then the sepoys at the nearest military cantonment rise in revolt and the British community retreats with shock into the Residency. They prepare to fight for their lives with what weapons they can muster.

What would have made The Siege of Krishnapur better?

Another narrator. This one is terrible at women and exaggerates his men so much that they sound like caricatures.

Would you recommend The Siege of Krishnapur to your friends? Why or why not?

Not this audiobook. The story sounded like it might be interesting but I just couldn't see listening to another 12 hours to find out.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Sam Dastor?

Simon Vance, Martin Jarvis, Frederick Davidson, etc.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    Disappointment.

  • Elizabeth and Her German Garden

Indoors are servants, meals, and furniture. There, too, is The Man of Wrath, her upright Teutonic husband, inspiring in Elizabeth a mixture of irritation, affection, and irreverence. But outside she can escape domestic routine, read favorite books, play with her three babies and garden to her heart's content. Through Elizabeth's eyes we watch the seasons, from May's "oasis of bird-cherries and greenery" to the time when "snow carpets her Pomeranian wilderness".

Joseph R says: "Cavorting in the Gardens"
"Such a great read for springtime"

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, especially if the friend loved the outdoors.

What did you like best about this story?

Elizabeth's relationship with her garden and unconventional way of thinking about it.

What about Nadia May’s performance did you like?

She's one of the great narrators. She always makes the characters and stories come vividly to life.

If you could rename Elizabeth and Her German Garden, what would you call it?

A Year in My German Garden

  • Cat's Cradle

Cat's Cradle is Kurt Vonnegut's satirical commentary on modern man and his madness. An apocalyptic tale of this planet's ultimate fate, it features a midget as the protagonist; a complete, original theology created by a calypso singer; and a vision of the future that is at once blackly fatalistic and hilariously funny. A book that left an indelible mark on an entire generation of readers, Cat's Cradle is one of this century's most important works...and Vonnegut at his very best.

Robert says: "KV at his best."
"Tony Roberts the perfect narrator for this book"

Would you consider the audio edition of Cat's Cradle to be better than the print version?

I enjoyed the book and was glad I listened on audio. The interview with Vonnegut at the end was a delightful bonus. I've not read the print version so can't really make a comparison.

Sister Anne may have been thrown down the convent's cellar stairs, shortly after dinnertime on a Wednesday evening. But who would want to murder a cloistered nun?

Thoroughly enjoyable and witty mystery in the English manner. The ending was a bit of a let down, so no 5-star rating. It was so much fun until the denoument, though, that I highly recommend this listen.

A witty, intelligent, and delectable mystery from Georgette Heyer. This British "cozy" mystery has eccentric characters, sparkling dialogue, and an intricate plot that is just plain fun. Take one rambling country house whose owner is found dead, supposedly poisoned. Add one ill-assorted family circle of very odd people, all with excellent motives for murder.

Anne says: "Wow! Audible has Georgette Heyer!"
    "Terrific"
    Overall

My first Georgette Heyer mystery, but not my last! A practically perfect mystery of manners worthy of Jane Austen herself, if she went in for that kind of thing.
