Now understand, I love Terry Brooks. I've been reading and listening to his books for years... but this one just isn't right. It is painfully slow as each scene takes ten times longer than it should. For example there is a place where 'he' has to leave 'her' in the hands of the 'bad guys' so he can go set up a meeting, leaving her for security and he is agonizing about leaving her, she says he has no choice, the bad guys say he has no choice, he agonizes more, she says he has no choice, the bad guys say he has no choice, … this goes on for - I actually TIMED it - over 11 minutes and even after he finally does leave, he is STILL agonizing about leaving her, maybe he should go back. I am halfway through the second part and decided to leave it for a while.... I know you have to know what happens in the story but get the book from your library and skim through it. Also it is over 500 years since Hawk and the Ghosts and the Elves, etc set up the camp and the barrier (and wasn't that a good, complex story!), so all those people are long dead and gone. I'll give it three stars only because it is Terry Brooks.

As a connoisseur of sci-fi and especially of future stories, I am vastly impressed with Richard K. Morgan's excellent tale of Takeshi Kovacs, ex UN Envoy, hard boiled detective and completely unpredictable character - the story is well crafted and complex. There are many wonderful details in this future of things I've not seen before. A joy and a surprise in any book. Extraordinarily creative. This is one you will listen to a second time.

I love the Remy Chandler books so I figured hey! an audio book - super! and I listened to the sample (because I have learned) and Luke Daniels sounded good, so I bought it. OK - I have to say Luke Daniels sounds good UNTIL he gets to Remy Chandler. Now this super cool, awesome angel, working as a detective, golden armor hidden away, etc. speaks and OMG he sounds like a little caricature of a "Joisey" player! WHY!? Why on earth would anybody think this angel sounds like that!!??

Five stars for the book minus 2 stars for the terrible distracting accent...

I signed on today to see what other reviewers were saying here and on amazon - I am better than halfway through Slow Horses but is is so painfully slow I am having a hard time finishing. Yes there are a lot of characters and yes he describes them well, but there is such a lack of cohesion - a rambling tale, oft times changing characters suddenly and in odd directions. But OK - several people here are saying it is worth staying with it to the end so I'll keep slogging... I cannot say I'd give top reviews to any book that requires me to get more than halfway before the story gets interesting. The reader, Sean Barrett, is excellent.

What can I say - another great Simon R. Green and his strange and weird Nightside!

I bought this book on the $4.95 sale and DIDN’T check the name of the reader...Groan!!! I really hate Dick Hill. I hate the inflection, the weird pauses and the odd pronunciation. I especially hate that he pronounces Wallander as Vo⋄Loń⋄Da... sounds like a New York hooker the way he says it. Maybe it should be pronounced this way and every other Mankell reader and TV series got it wrong? I dunno but it is awfully distracting. The story is great so 5 stars for the story minus two stars for Dick Hill.

How can you say any more superlatives that have not already be said about this trilogy, except to add your voice? AND Simon Vance is a fantastic reader, perfect for this series. I will look for other books he has narrated. I am so sorry Stieg Larsson died before he could see the global love for his creations.

This enormous story goes on and on and on and then suddenly.... it just stops... left me feeling like there should be another chapter, like I was missing pages. Also consider these elements: Colorado, Las Vegas, a prescient old black lady, a virus that was made by humans and got out of control, etc. The Stand sure comes to mind, and evidentially to just about every reader of The Passage! All said, I thought it an engaging story but I was very disappointed at the sudden stop ending. One feels it should say "to be continued." Many are saying it is his way of setting us up for another enormous volume to follow. I think I would pass. Also there is a woman reader who reads at odd times and she is much too sibilant. That got old fast.

Vivek Rai shot bartender (pretty, young, college student) Ruby Gill to death in a restaurant in New Delhi. This murder was witnessed by many and yet Vivek Rai was acquitted. He then throws a party to celebrate his escape from justice and is shot to death at his own party. Who done it!? There are six suspects - ALL of whom have great reasons to see him dead. This is really six stories interwoven by a master storyteller. Part funny, part tragedy, part pure creative imagination. Syntax, vocabulary, structure is beautiful. Wonderfully done! This is a real keeper! The accents (except for the Texan) are great. This is from the author of Slumdog Millionaire.

I love this series and I think Gigi Bermingham is a good reader UNTIL she does different accents. Her Jenks sounds like Alvin the Chipmunk on amphetamines, the master vampire sounds like a little old lady from Brooklyn and her Al (the demon) like Miss Marple trying to do a funny caricature of the Queen... If she were to be the reader for the next book, I would opt for the print version. Most of the character accents I can bear, but I cringe when Jenks comes in and need to turn the audio down...
Kim Harrison is a fantastic writer and I do love this series...
