My first King book. I'm a non-fiction type of guy but recently decided to read a fiction work "in between" my business and history books. This was so fun to read. I have to blame King for the fact that I let two days of graduate school go to hell while I stayed locked in on Dudditz and his buds. Very very well spelled out characters who you can picture. The kindness the boys had shown a person in need was touching. GREAT BOOK!! READ IT!!!
Hobbs, once again, hit it spot on for us former medics. Some hilarious characters and scenes too! If you are someone from outside the fire and EMS world take it from this veteran medic, this is very realistic stuff. It is that crazy out there for a trauma junkie.
I spent 10 years as a street medic and have never found any novels which even come close to what is really like, until now! Hobbs did a great time of capturing the hours of boredom, seconds of terror, brotherhood of us sick people who love EMS, the strain on relationships, and personal toll.
When I saw the new book was out, I was thrilled. It did not disappoint. Now I want to go back and read the full series again!
When John Grisham spoke at my graduation from Arkansas State University, I felt a bit guilty for not having read any of his works. The truth is though that I am not a huge fan of fiction. As a historian, I find the truth to be much more interesting then anything which can be imagined. This book beckoned me though as it takes place in the state where I grew up. It was very entertaining to listen to Lucas' story of life in the cotton. One of my friends, a good bit older then myself, responded to my inquiry on whether he had read this book with, "I remember being one of the hill people." It's a simple, sweet, and warm little story about the rough but honest life that some folks in Arkansas still live. You can find this kind of poverty still if you go farther south into the delta. I'm not much on Lawyer stories but I think Mr. Grisham hit a home run with this one. Iwonder if it was a St. Louis Cardinals homerun.
