Have you ever seen something that wasn't really there? Heard someone call your name in an empty house? Sensed someone following you and turned around to find nothing? Hallucinations don't belong wholly to the insane. Much more commonly, they are linked to sensory deprivation, intoxication, illness, or injury. People with migraines may see shimmering arcs of light or tiny, Lilliputian figures of animals and people.

Alison says: "Sacks at his best, why couldn't he narrate?"
"Oliver Sacks writes another great one"

Would you consider the audio edition of Hallucinations to be better than the print version?

It is nice to hear the author in the beginning; I wish he read all his books.

    Any additional comments?

This book brings up an important facet of the human experience and helps to put it in context. Oliver Sacks delivers another great one.

  • Did Jesus Exist?: The Historical Argument for Jesus of Nazareth

Large numbers of atheists, humanists, and conspiracy theorists are raising one of the most pressing questions in the history of religion: "Did Jesus exist at all?" Was he invented out of whole cloth for nefarious purposes by those seeking to control the masses? Or was Jesus such a shadowy figure - far removed from any credible historical evidence - that he bears no meaningful resemblance to the person described in the Bible? In Did Jesus Exist? historian and Bible expert Bart Ehrman confronts these questions, vigorously defends the historicity of Jesus, and provides a compelling portrait of the man from Nazareth.

If you could sum up Did Jesus Exist? in three words, what would they be?

Jesus Certainly Existed. The arguments presented clearly here are thoughtful and not superficial. From a secular, scholarly point of view, the arguments and evidence are displayed convincingly and carefully. This is what we expect from Ehrman, and he delivers. He does away with common superficialities and the reader is satisfied.

Despite considerable press coverage and a lengthy trial, the full story of the Fundamentalist Church of Latter Day Saints has remained largely untold. Only one man can reveal the whole, astounding truth: Sam Brower, the private investigator who devoted years of his life to breaking open the secret practices of the FLDS and bringing Warren Jeffs and his inner circle to justice.

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

The reality of the story is frightening. The author (a cop) tells a complex story about a group of people that the general public may not be aware of. It is an important story that should get more attention.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Definitely. The reader forms relationships with the victims and the cops and wants the whole operation to be taken down right away.
