Intriguing, riveting, intense

You cannot and will not forget Joe Ledger visiting Pine Deep and running into a couple of our faves from that series. And when he finally catches up to Amirah, the scene that plays out is quite interesting.

Ray Porter has this dry, sarcastic tone when he's voicing Ledger, yet when he voices Top and Bunny, it's completely different. He does each character justice in inflection and attitude.

There were a couple of scenes that had me laughing. Top asking Ledger why the old guy always had to run up and down the stairs....trust me, you have to listen.

The combination of Jonathan Maberry's writing and Ray Porter's narration combine for an awesome set of short stories. It helps if you've read at least one or two books in the Ledger series, but if I didn't know what was going on, this would certainly make me want to take a peek.

The time spent listening to this book could have been spent listening to one of Maberry's other, more action packed reads. It was slow to start and the characters weren't very enjoyable.

This one isn't as 'hit the ground running' as his other works, but it does get up and grab you eventually. Once you reach that point, you can't wait to hear what happens next.

The performance was fine, in my opinion, seeing as how he didn't have much to work with at first.

Dead of Night isn't exactly inspirational. Unless of course you make sure you never, ever volunteer to buy a long lost relative on family property....

Come to think of it, that's a good idea.

The female lead was a guy with ovaries, but other than that, it wasn't half bad. Eventually you grow attached to the characters. The last few chapters are heart wrenching, and terrifying all at the same time.

An infamous war criminal, cloning, and even a Unicorn. Tell me, what's not to love?

The fight against the Jacoby family toward the end is action packed and it's results will pull at anyone's heart strings.

Gotta love a woman who can take care of herself. Grace getting revenge for the 'blokes in Deep Iron' is what makes her character so amazing.

When Grace was shot in the back and her subsequent passing in Ledger's arms...it's a tear jerker.

The combination of Porter's voice acting and Maberry's words have scored another winner. I've listened to this book three times, and each and every time I cry over grace, cheer Sam/82 on and revel in Ledger kicking butt at the end.

Some of the stories start out with a bang, but all end up very, very lacking.

Making this book more enjoyable might be impossible. Everything seems....forced.

I don't think any narrator could have helped.

All of it. I honestly didn't find anything about this book to be even remotely entertaining.

I doubt any narrator could have made this book interesting. I fell asleep while listening to it twice and had to start certain stories over. While some were passable, none of them were very enticing or entertaining.

Fast-Paced, Detailed, Exciting

Maberry brings thoughts of his main character to the foreground and you can see he's not just a killing machine. Ledger is a real person, with real thoughts and reactions to a situation like this.

Joe Ledger, as voiced by Ray Porter, is a sarcastic, witty, lovable character.

Mr. Church served to make you curious about him. Who IS this big man in tinted glasses?

A wonderful zombie thriller that's fast paced, action packed and will leave you scrambling to get to the next book.
