On the 78th floor of the World Trade Center’s north tower, no alarms sounded, and no one knew what had just happened at 8:46 a.m. that morning, September 11, 2001. Blind since birth, Michael couldn’t see a thing, but he could hear the sounds of shattering glass, falling debris, and terrified people flooding around him and his guide dog, Roselle. However, Roselle sat calmly beside him. In that moment, Michael chose to trust Roselle’s judgment and not to panic. They were a team....

This book focuses on blindness and the author's life being blind from infancy. Although it was interesting from that point of view it focuses very little on his dog. Really disappointing as a dog lover. I found it to be more of an "all about me and what I have done" kind of book. Was really glad when it ended.

Marie-Laure lives with her father in Paris near the Museum of Natural History, where he works as the master of its thousands of locks. When she is six, Marie-Laure goes blind and her father builds a perfect miniature of their neighborhood so she can memorize it by touch and navigate her way home. When she is 12, the Nazis occupy Paris and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great-uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel.

I totally agree with other reviewers who find the shifts in location and characters hard to follow and for me it interrupts the flow of the story. Just as I would get interested in a thread the storyline would shift leaving me having to get interested again. When it finally returned I had lost interest. I still have an hour to go and it seems like it has been going on forever. Narration was great. Just can't join the positive train for this book.

Before you buy this book listen to the audio sample. This narrator's voice is high pitched and to me very annoying. Like listening to a little girl read. Simply could not get past her voice to enjoy or not enjoy the book. Definitely not my cup of tea.

The USS Kentucky - a Trident ballistic missile submarine carrying a full complement of 192 nuclear warheads - sets out on a routine cruise. Not long after it reaches the open sea, however, the Kentucky receives a launch order. After receiving that launch order, it is cut off from all counter orders and disappears into the Pacific while it makes the eight-day transit to the launch site. What the Kentucky's crew doesn't know is that those launch orders didn't come from the US government.

This book might have been ok if it had been condensed into half its length. I did find it helped me go to sleep! Narrator pronounced hawaiian words poorly. His voice was boring but it was probably because the book was putting him to sleep too. A tolerable listen on sale, don't pay a full credit for it!

In February 1959, a group of nine experienced hikers in the Russian Ural Mountains died mysteriously on an elevation known as Dead Mountain. Eerie aspects of the incident—unexplained violent injuries, signs that they cut open and fled the tent without proper clothing or shoes, a strange final photograph taken by one of the hikers, and elevated levels of radiation found on some of their clothes—have led to decades of speculation over what really happened.

I enjoyed the book, similar to reading a documentary. The author read his own work which for me rarely works. In this case he took a rather dry topic and made it very dull. He sounded absolutely bored with the whole book which he probably was after writing it. There is a reason narrators are professionals and writers are professionals. They are different skills. Book was ok though, I enjoyed this little bit of history.

At the age of 22, Jennifer Worth left her comfortable home to move into a convent and become a midwife in postwar London’s East End slums. The colorful characters she met while delivering babies all over London - from the plucky, warm-hearted nuns with whom she lived to the woman with 24 children who couldn't speak English to the prostitutes and dockers of the city’s seedier side - illuminate a fascinating time in history.

Although the book was interesting I really struggled with the narration. The accents were so strong I simply missed parts of the book. I almost asked for a refund but struggled through it. For me it would be way better in print, audible version was hard work. Disappointing.

Lou diamond Phillips is terrible at almost every accent and this book is full of different accents. Very distracting. However, the little audible gasps between many phrases where really annoying. To his credit I don't think even the best narrator could have saved this trite book. What a sad end to a sometimes brilliant series. At least it didn't make me sad to say adios to jack Ryan, both of them.

Billed as a mystery/thriller the romance aspect was incredible tedious. The mystery aspect was really weak. The narrator had an irritating edgy voice that was grating to listen too. I don't think even a brilliant narrator could save this book. I'll skip this series, thank you. The story and narrator were a good match, below average.

The Delta Solution is an action-packed novel pitting Navy SEAL Mack Bedford against the Somali pirates operating off the southerly reaches of the lawless East African republic on the Indian Ocean. For the past three years, these heavily armed tribal brigands have been capturing and holding for ransom massive cargo ships, and violently demanding millions of dollars for their return. Hero Mack Bedford is deployed to obliterate them in the middle of the Indian Ocean, at all costs, once and for all.

I agree with other reviewers in their disappointment with this book. I have read just about every seal book available and am usually riveted. The author seemed to need to tell me how impressed I should be, again and again. There was very little story or action. Lots of unnecessary verbiage and honking of seal horns. Our special forces are so exceptional that you don't need to tell me how exceptional they are. Just tell the story, the awe is in understating their feats. Thanks to our military at every level. You can all spend your credit on most anything, it would be better than this thing. 3 stars because of the tiny insight into piracy.
