Meb Keflezighi is all about hope and second chances—starting with his very survival. The child of a small African country ravaged by a brutal war, Meb arrived in America with nothing but the clothes on his back, speaking no English and never having raced a mile. So how did he end up an A student, one of the most celebrated and respected athletes of his generation, and winner of the 2009 New York City Marathon?

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No. There is so much repetition and information pointless to this story that if you remove all the useless stuff this book would be 1 hour long. Way too much focus on god and prayer as well.

Has Run to Overcome turned you off from other books in this genre?

No. I love running non-fiction, but this is one of the worst.

What aspect of Jon Gauger’s performance would you have changed?

    More excitement needed.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Not after listening to it. I would have if I didn't listen to the book before the movie.

  • Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail (Oprah's Book Club 2.0)

At 22, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother's death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life: to hike the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State - and to do it alone. She had no experience as a long-distance hiker, and the trail was little more than “an idea, vague and outlandish and full of promise.” But it was a promise of piecing back together a life that had come undone.

    What disappointed you about Wild?

The writing was pedestrian at best. If I didn't know this book was written by the person the journey is about, I would have to assume she perished on the trail. Cheryl is a disgrace to everyone who enjoys, and is prepared for, the outdoors.

What do you think your next listen will be?

One of the books in my library that I haven't listened to yet.

What about Bernadette Dunne’s performance did you like?

    The narrartor was perfectly fine.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I honestly could not believe how stupid the author was on her journey or how she ever convinved a publisher to sell this book.

    Any additional comments?

Avoid this one at all cost. Waste of time.
