"Worth the subscription"
Since I can't write a review for the individual books, I'm giving this a middle rating. Some books are quite good, others not so much. Same with the narrators. However, 2 books a month for one subscription is a good deal. Also an excellent way to check out new authors.
"Looking forward to reading more from Cathryn Parry"
Well written, loved the characters. Although many stories have characters hiding secrets from the past, I thought this book handled it better than most. Realistic characters dealing with realistic situations in a realistic way.
"One of the worst narrators!"
I actually listened to the book as a way to go to sleep! The narrator was truly awful. The story suffers due to the narration, which is a lesson in articulation. In fact, some words are so over articulated they are actually mispronounced!
"Makes me wish I liked vampire/werewolf stories!"
Really enjoyed Molly Harper's writing and Amanda Ronconi's narration. I hope she writes more of this kind of novel, because I intensely dislike the vampire, witch, werewolf, paranormal theme. Miss Harper's writting is witty (snarky, too!), and even though we all know it will have a happy ending (it is a romance after all) - I completely enjoyed the journey!
"Don't expect Fool's Gold"
Susan Mallery books are among my favorites reads (listens). But if you're expecting the same tone as the Fool's Gold series you might be disappointed. I really liked the characters in this book (though not in the first book of the series) and was so involved I found myself crying all the time. That's the difference - there is a heavier or more serious tone to this book. Reminded me of Kristan Higgins' books.
"Like this series"
This is the 3rd book in the Hope's Crossing series. I listened to book 2 and read book 1 because it wasn't on audio. Bought this one as soon as it came out on audio - guess that speaks for itself! Although not everything is happily ever after in the books, the characters are wonderful and real life tragedies rather than murders are the obstacles they overcome. The 4th book will be coming out soon and I intend to buy that one as soon as it comes out. The only real negative is the narrator who's a voice is a little boring, but not so bad I can't listen to the books.
"Disappointing"
I was really looking forward to this book. The newsletter from "Writerspace" made it sound like an author I would like. It was good enough to finish, but that's it! I didn't care about the characters - they started out pretty unlikeable, and their contraditory behavior made them frustrating. So far there is a series of three books and all of the women are introduced in this book. However, the main character in the second book is such a snobbish ****, I can't imagine wanting to read about her in the next book.
"Pleasantly Surprised!"
Goodreads recommended this book for me and I had it in my Wish List for quite awhile. I didn't like the description of the book, felt it wasn't something I wouldn't enjoy. I was wrong! I ended up reading a free novella from Shannon Stacey, which I liked (it was part of the Kowalski series) and decided to give it a try. It wasn't what I expected from the description. I don't want to give away any of the plot, so let me just say I was pleasantly surprised by the book and will be reading more of the series.
"Where's the conflict?"
The story seems to consist of dropping names of famous chefs and describing recipes. The heroine has a self-absorbed chef for a boss and has some life decisions to make - but that's all the conflict in the story. I listened on and off for days and finally finished the book, that's about the best I can say for it. It wasn't so horrible that I had to stop listening, but I honestly cannot recommend this book to anyone (unless your having trouble sleeping.) I gave it two stars, only because I reserve one star for truely awful books.
"Buying the next in series now!"
I love finding a new series I can enjoy! If you like the contemporary romances of Susan Andersen, Linda Lael Miller and Susan Mallery - you'll enjoy this book as well.
