This story has monkeys in it...and I'm fairly sure that one of them helped him write this book. Having more pride than his famous co-author, the monkey must have demanded that his name be left off the credits. I wish my name was off the list of people who bought it.

Of course, it was Edgar J Watson; unless you want to use his birth name... Edgar A Watson. He would have made a psychiatrist cry. This man was so complex, it's impossible to explain him.

Which scene was your favorite?

The ending. It actually did make me cry.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but way too long.

I found the plethora of what one reviewer deemed "50-cent words" and the excersions into character development to be extremely refreshing. It's to the author's credit that he didn't dumb it down for the masses, but instead took advantage of the colorful & complex language at his disposal. Taken in context, most meanings aren't that hard to figure out. This may have been the first book I purchased by Burke, but it surely won't be the last. And kudos to Will Patton, the narrator...perfection!

This is one of those mediocre books, but not so much because of the story, but the narrator. The storyline was acceptable enough, I guess, even though I agree with a previous reviewer that the ending came together a tad too predictable and neat. The narrator's interpretation was way too sugary for my taste, stretching his inflections to the point of irritation. I don't think he got the 'mystery/thriller' idea. George Guidall he is not.

With Fyodor Dostoevsky as the author and George Guidall as the narrator, you would expect excellence and that's exactly what you get. I put this off because of the length, but it's worth every second. Don't overlook this one. A timeless classic; a timeless narrator.

Although the basis of the story is workable and could have been interesting, this writer has produced characters that are just plain boring; his descriptions are meandering and meaningless.

To make matters worse, this narrator is the absolute worst I've ever heard. Honestly, some of his character voices made me either laugh or cringe in shock. I kid you not; the reading was absolutely horrible. I haven't yet checked to see if he's read other books, but if we're lucky, this was a one time thing.

I gave this book 2 stars, but only because the plot had possibilities. Not because it was successful.

I'm not one for CIA spy stories involving foreign connections, assasination attempts, etc. But in looking for a new author and in spite of the description, I bought it anyway and am I glad I did. Start to finish it's completely worth every minute spent listening. Do yourself a favor...buy this one!
