"Great Translation for English Speakers"
Yes, I tried to listen to Les Miserables Unabridged Narrated by Frederick Davidson - countless times and due to the translation it was slow going and I could never finish it. This translation by Julie Rose is wonderful and flows as you would expect an native English story to. As anyone with a thesaurus can attest there are countless ways to say the same thing in English. Julie Rose has a knack of choosing the right words!
As mentioned above the other version on audible is not translated into English as fluently.
He's wonderful. He has a wonderful aged voice - he's a master story teller!
Fantine's death and plea for the care of her daughter Cosette - always a tear jerker!
"Performance of a Life Time!"
Yes, there’s never a dull moment. In 3rd Rock, I always found Kristen's voice a bit manly but surely there has never been a better voice for audio books! This is a flawless performance. She has a knack for making the destruction of her guts and her life sound very sexy. She’s real and raw about her ordeal of living on the brink of death in a foreign country suffering, isolated, lonely and cold turkey from all her demons. Call me an enabler, but never has there been one more deserving of a cigarette and stiff drink!
Why over all a 3 star rating? A biography should leave you feeling like you know the person you've read so much about. I know she had a hard time in the hospital, drinking, drugs & poor self esteem but I don't really know much more about her then when I started and the book ended rather adruptly.
As far as I know this is her first audio performance, which I hope she develops into a career.
