    • By Veronica Roth
    • Narrated By Emma Galvin
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue - Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is - she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

Grant says: "It's not for me. Loved it anyway."
    "meets and exceeds expectation"

  • Secret Lives

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 28 mins)
    • By Diane Chamberlain
    • Narrated By Johanna Parker
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Actress Eden Riley's decision to make a film about her mother plunges her into a shattering confrontation with her own past, irrevocably altering her life and the lives of those she loves. Her mother, Katherine Swift, was a renowned children's author who died when Eden was very young. Now Eden, recovering from a divorce and disillusioned with her glamorous life, returns to the childhood home of the mother she barely knew. She moves in with her uncle, archaeologist Kyle Swift and his wife, Louise. Eden gets more than she bargained for when Kyle gives her the journal her mother had kept from the age of 13 until her death.

Yolanda S. Bean says: "Dark Family Drama"
    "Not what I expected"
What would have made Secret Lives better?

    Less descriptive sex.

Has Secret Lives turned you off from other books in this genre?

Well, I don't think so. I had read Diane chamberlains' silent sister and enjoyed it so much that I got another by her... NOT the same caliber of writing!

Did Johanna Parker do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Yes, she did. She helped you form a picture in your mind of who was speaking.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

The story was okay, interesting, but I was disappointed in some of the unnecessary descriptions of sex scenes.

    Any additional comments?

I think I'll wait for the follow up to Silent Sister to read anymore of ms chamberlains books.

  • Six Years

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 37 mins)
    • By Harlan Coben
    • Narrated By Scott Brick
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Six years have passed since Jake Fisher watched Natalie, the love of his life, marry another man. Six years of hiding a broken heart by throwing himself into his career as a college professor. Six years of keeping his promise to leave Natalie alone, and six years of tortured dreams of her life with her new husband, Todd. But six years haven’t come close to extinguishing his feelings, and when Jake comes across Todd’s obituary, he can’t keep himself away from the funeral. There he gets the glimpse of Todd’s wife he’s hoping for...but she is not Natalie....

    G. House Sr. says: "Obsession, mystery, and you're hooked!"
"wish I had not spent the credit"
Would you try another book from Harlan Coben and/or Scott Brick?

Harlan Coben-Only if there were no other books to choose from and I was going on a road trip and really really needed a book to listen to Scott Brick-I spent the credit because I do like his narrations and thought that I might enjoy the book.

Would you ever listen to anything by Harlan Coben again?

    I don't think so

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

It has just enough suspense to keep you wondering where the story might be going....maybe next chapter will get to the point and the drek will end.....I held on to end because my curiosity got the better of me...all the while rolling my eyes at the endless wandering of the story

  • Sycamore Row

    • UNABRIDGED (20 hrs and 50 mins)
    • By John Grisham
    • Narrated By Michael Beck
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Seth Hubbard is a wealthy man dying of lung cancer. He trusts no one. Before he hangs himself from a sycamore tree, Hubbard leaves a new, handwritten, will. It is an act that drags his adult children, his black maid, and Jake into a conflict as riveting and dramatic as the murder trial that made Brigance one of Ford County's most notorious citizens, just three years earlier. The second will raises far more questions than it answers. Why would Hubbard leave nearly all of his fortune to his maid? Had chemotherapy and painkillers affected his ability to think clearly?

Brock says: "Grisham at his best (again)"
    "Grisham is back!"
What did you like best about this story?

The way it was told.....little "pictures" of the story at a time...kept me wanting to find out what was around the next bend

What does Michael Beck bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He was spot on with his accents and making each character an watching a movie...only better

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

definately!!!!! but sorry that it ended, too

    Any additional comments?

So glad to see Grisham (the old Grisham) back!!!!
