Ms. Harper is quick witted and writes with a wicked pen!!! I love her work and it just continues to get better and better. She can't write fast enough for me!!! I want more and pout when each book ends! This one Driving Mr. Dead is just another faucet of her writing and I love it!!! You want a good chuckle with a good solid story line with a sprinkle of sexy...she has it!
When I started to read this book it was absorbing but then it got to be unbelievable and unrealistic as to how the main Character would know certain things or do things that she'd never known before. I was sorely disappointed by some of the writing as I think it got sloppy in some parts like the author wanted to rush the story line or didn't know how to write certain scenes. As I said it was okay, somewhat far fetched and didn't absorb me as I usually get absorbed into a book.
For short insight: Alexandra Belarus is a struggling artist that finds out some pretty dark secrets about her family and finds herself in a fight for her family and digging into her grandfathers past. She finds out she is a spell mason and has the abilities to manipulate a craft of magic with stones. She also somehow awakens a gargoyle that is her guardian through this.
Right from the start it was exciting. I really wanted to read the book before watching the movie and I'm glad!!! The book does follow an "A" typical plot line, which I won't ruin for those who haven't read it but I love how the writer puts her twists and turns on it. I'm really looking forward to the next book.
For a quick note: Clary is a strong girl who follows her gut and instincts through the book to find her Mom and works with people she doesn't know and discovers a pretty heavy secret about herself and her life that she wouldn't have known if her Mother had anything to do with it. In this she finds more family and creates strong bonds with people she wouldn't have normally hung out with but finds she needs also.
A strong book, with a strong plot and good characters!!!
Finally get to hear Dougal Kincaid's Story. In the "Love At Stake" Series, earlier on, Dougal lost his sword hand in battle with the Malcontents. He's always the soft spoken of the Vamps and very loyal. A background character that you smiled and felt sorry for. Unfortunately, I felt sorry for him through this whole book! Sad life and sadder way to become a vampire. It touches base on his childhood of slavery, how he came to be playing the pipes and his music in general. Highlights on his lost love. Also touches on his new prosthetic hand that Roman made him that he can control with his mind. I never knew what a mopey Vamp he was! Leah is no better. She's his love interest. A brainy child who grew up smarter then the rest and became a scientist. She has a few hang-ups herself and found myself wanting to reach in the book and smack her a good one a few times. The story does improve when you get further into it! I loved the Angels part in it and a face off with the demon Darifer.
Werebear Howard finds romance finally!! Doughnut loving hunk falls for a mythical amazon of a gal who's ancestors were the originators of his kind? He doesn't know it and was raised with the legend but he has had the hots for her since seeing her on a "Flip this house" show as one of the designer/workers. Of course this not so little gal doesn't believe in the hooey of her 'mystical' path and has Aunts that are batty in her book but she loves (one lugs a gun about. LOL) but she finds herself falling for the werebear and trying to heed her Aunts crazy warnings. Of course if you've followed the "At Stake" series as I have...you'll see all your favorite characters involved and laugh, nearly cry for and cheer on Howard. He's not as simple as he pretends to be in all the other books. Pooh Bear can growl!!!
Harry is back from the dead...Yay for that...but he has healing to do and Mab on his heels with her training of him. People from his life needing him and he's torn between helping them, saving himself from Mab's training and suspecting everything that is going on. He also learns more about the Island. Jim Butcher has put twists all over the place in this book and it is wonderful!! Another in the A+ column!
Exciting and sad!!! Totally enjoyed the book!! Rachel grabs the bull by the horns and also more! Newt comes more to the fore on this book...measuring her Everafter as it shrinks. Ku'Sox is back on the attack more then ever and Bis is learning more as Rachel's familiar! This series is better and better with each book. Though in the last one Rachel gets hurt terribly and beat up bad...she comes back fighting! More characters die (sniff) a few that will shock the socks off you. Jax is back, gotta feel sorry for the bugger but it is good he is. Ivy once again take the background on this and this is good. That Vampire lure thing was kinda freaky to me.
Kim Harrison once again brings the best out in her book. Rachel Morgan, the books leading lady and demon witch, falls into trouble again. Things heat up, yes with her and Trent, several favored characters die (which I did sniffle a little over) and Al gets his knickers in a twist! Don't see much of Ivy but that's okay. Jinks and his kids, add spice to life of the book as well but don't divert and we gotta love Bis and his importance is brought to the forefront for saving Rachel and the Everafter! I love how Marguerite Gavin brings everyone to life and you know exactly who is in the room. Yay Kim Harrison for this and her continued excellence with the Hollows series!!
I enjoyed this new twists for vampires! I've read all the books but also wanted to try it on audio. IIyana Kadushin brings to life a new world of vampires with her narration. An Arizona teenager, Bella, going to live with her Sheriff father in Forks Washington. She meets with an unusual family and falls in love with Edward, a very serious young man who she figures out his and his families secret, they're vampires. It all twists around to where she finds herself on hung between two worlds and her love of Edward and what she must and must not do. In a nut shell, there are times where I want to slap Bella and Edward both for their teenage throws of drama but also love them for it.
Pull your candies from their hiding spots and enjoy this book! I loved it and reread it several times and it always makes me smile! I love the clever humor, suspense and dabble of sexy Ms. Harper throws in this book. If you like your vampires and a good romance...this series has it all. Read the series from book one and everything will make perfect sense.
