I was just as hooked on this as the first two in the series. While there are some improbable occurrences, I couldn't wait to hear more of Elizabeth Salander (not sure of spelling, didn't see it in writing!). Listened to it twice in two weeks. I am sad that the author passed away and will write no more.
I did not care in the least about the characters in any of the stories. I finally gave up about halfway through the book.
Sure not going to see the movie.
The story line was very good- a book within a book, and interesting plot twists. But the dialog was so stilted and artificial, especially in the main "book". Part of the blame I attribute to the narrator, as his word emphasis contributed to the "just off" feeling.
Stephen King knows suspense, but the people in this book were either over-the-top do-gooders or the worst evil of Mankind. There was too much unnecessary gore and violence instead of real story. Still had to listen to the whole thing!
This was a fun listen. I liked all the quirky characters. Hope there is a sequel!
If this novel had been longer, I would have quit listening in the middle. The main character had no redeeming qualities. Everyone in the novel was stereotyped. Not worth listening, but once you buy it, you're stuck.
This novel makes me want to keep driving or sit in the garage listening. The story is mesmerizing- a fascinating look at the third world's health care and politics, as well as the disparity of health care between the "haves" and "have nots" here- along with a beautiful story about the protagonist's life.
I had high hopes for this book, based on reviews and Oprah's endorsement. The story was engagingly written, but there was no clear plot, and too many things were never explained. Why couldn't Edgar speak? What actually happened to his dad? What was the POINT? There was no real resolution at the end, just a lot of bad events.
Quite fascinating and thorough treatise on the uses and disposal of the deceased. Not for the squeamish! One fault- the narrator mispronounced a number of fairly common medical terms.
This is an engaging and riveting tale. We enjoyed it thoroughly.
