A comedy, A life study, A culture study, A yummy study of words, phrases and life in a delightful humorous and very sarcastic tale of an aging writer/author. Amy McFadden did an excellent job with the voices and pace, I especially loved her voice for Maxine!! I loved this book!
an easy listen, loved the highlight of how mothers can have such high expectations of their daughters that are so unreasonable. Crusie did a great job of satire with the mother. One of Crusie's better books.
The stories are well written, but VERY dark in nature. It was not what I consider "entertainment". I had to skip some of the stories due to the subject matter. Is our world as horrible and ugly as the author describes... yes, but do we really want to read/listen to the intimate accounts of it. Not I. I tried to give it a good listen, but could not finish it.
The book is certainly written in a different style, one letter, memorandum, email, divorce code at a time to unfold a wonderful story. I enjoyed the story, the different style was a delightful change to the usual and worked perfectly with the multi-dimensional story line. Having the different performers was genius and matched the style. I look forward to more books from Susan Rieger.
Not my usual style in book catagories, so glad I gave it a try. I will certainly finish the series.
I was drawn to this book and had it in my wish list for over 6 months because it wasn't the style of book I normally enjoy. I finally took it on and could not stop listing. It was excellent in so many ways. The author did quite a bit of research to pull the book off so flawlessly. The hidden side of our lives so well told, especially in the paradox of the time period. We are always, just human and the rules of society no matter what time period are just illusions.
Moyes did an amazing job of building a great story out of a very complex subject. I didn't want to stop listening! The complexity of love and loss, relationships, dysfunctional family all delivered with wonderful imagination and grace. This was a wonderful piece of entertainment!
A perfectly executed piece of entertainment! A great story, exquisitely described locations and lifestyle without being “too much”. I didn’t want story to end, but it was well done and satisfying. I will certainly be on the look out for Kevin Kwan’s next novel. His true talent is in the psychology of family dynamics and the absurdity it can take on. It was a wonderful peak into a past and emerging culture and the clashing dynamics as they unfold everyday life.
The story line got really boring, it was interesting enough in the first half... wasn't enough substance to have me finish it in the second half.
the book was read to slowly. its a wonderful story, wished it was read a bit faster. actual dialogue was done well but the in between to painfully slow. Worth the credit.
