  • Shut Your Eyes Tight: Dave Gurney, Book 2

When he was the NYPD’s top homicide investigator, Dave Gurney was never comfortable with the label the press gave him: super detective. He was simply a man who, when faced with a puzzle, wanted to know. He was called to the investigative hunt by the presumptuous arrogance of murderers - by their smug belief that they could kill without leaving a trace. There was always a trace, Gurney believed. Except what if, one day, there wasn’t?

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Shut Your Eyes Tight is certainly worth a listen. The narration was unobtrusive and the plot was intriguing.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I was dissapointed with the shear number of loose ends left at the end of this book. The set-up and climax of the novel were awesome but the story ends abruptly with virtualy no resolution to many of the most interesting plot lines. That being said it was an enjoyable experience, one that I recommend to all readers of the first book in the David Gurney series.

They were just kids when they stumbled upon the horror of their hometown. Now, as adults, none of them can withstand the force that has drawn them all back to Derry, Maine, to face the nightmare without end, and the evil without a name.

What did you like best about this story?

It is a massive chronicaling of the town of Dairy, Maine through the eyes of a group of children. In my opinion, the plot takes a back seat to the charater and world development. This is totally acceptable since listening to the narrator Steven Weber is a real treat.

What does Steven Weber bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narrator was simply incredible. Weber adds a whole new level to the listening experience. His voice for "it" is just pitch-perfect disturbing. Every character line is so fluid and believable as he adds sighs, laughter, and voice inflection. Simply a joy to listen to.

Claire DeWitt is not your average private investigator. She has brilliant skills of deduction and is an ace at discovering evidence. But Claire also uses her dreams, omens, and mind-expanding herbs to help her solve mysteries, and relies on Détection—the only book published by the great and mysterious French detective Jacques Silette before his death.

Yes; unique setting - post-Katrina New Orleans and interesting characters.

What does Carol Monda bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Good accent work 90% of the time; french accent is abit annoying.
