Story is good; narration is awful. This narrator couldn't provide any distinctions between characters, even though he tried. Voice is denasal throughout and not simply because of a cold or transient infection, would be my guess. My best suggestion is to buy the abridged version.
So many reviewers claimed that this book was better than the HG trilogy, or was different and that comparisons couldn't be made. I disagree. With Divergent the story line is not as diverse, complex, or entertaining and I felt cheated that characters weren't as well developed. Some segments just droned on and on. Hunger Games is heads above this book, so I wouldn't recommend it if you're looking to fill your hunger for a similar tome with this one.
I tried, I really really tried to get through this book. But it is astonishingly BORING. I am so sorry that I wasted a credit on it. As others have said, the narrator has an unusual way of dropping the last word in a sentence, to an inaudible mutter. A reader/listener shouldn't have to strain to understand what's being said let alone figure out what what is being said.
Loved the multiple stories, each different than the other, very well crafted. I can honestly say that there was not a slow passage, dull moment, etc. and I couldn't wait to get into my car and listen as the stories progressed. Are the themes dark? Yes. However, they are so beautifully crafted that your appreciation of his ability to write such dramatic stories overcomes any hesitation you might have to listen to them.
I love being kept on the edge of my seat while listening to a good book, and this really fits the bill. Great narration, story line that keeps you wanting more. Way to write!
This story is hindered to a large extent by the narrator. Her idea of changing voices to identify different characters is almost laughable. No, Joyce, a lower pitch does not make for an intriging identity to match the character. I will never listen to her again. Story wise, it's ok, but from the other two reviews, I wonder what they've been reading to rate this so high. I urge caution, dear Audible readers.
Premise of the story is good but this book is so padded with redundant and mostly worthless dialogue that I struggled to get through it. This could easily have been written with half the content. Basically just borish and little imagination around facts about autism.
THE most boring book I've ever tried to listen to...don't bother with it.
Enjoyed this book. It had been a while since reading the first one, but easy to drop right on in with #2. Interesting story line.
The ONLY book in my 3 years with Audible that I couldn't tolerate to finish. Guess I was hoping for another Diane Mott Davidson, but not even in the same universe with her.
The unabridged version is the most drawn-out, super fluffed read I've ever downloaded. It takes Kellerman what seems like hours to get to a point, and then it's trivia. Don't waste your credit.
