I thoroughly enjoyed this follow-on future version of the Mistborn series, and as usual, was completely absorbed and obsessed with the story, listening while driving, cleaning the house, doing craftwork, sometimes just sitting and listening! The narration is great. My only frustration is that the book leaves you sort of hanging, wanting a sequel. That doesnt seem likely with the whole Stormlight series in progress. Maybe Brandon will get back to the Mistborn stories sometime later.
I am sure I will be just as obsessed with the new series, as I havent been able to get enough of Brandon's stories since I was introduced to Elantris.
The magic of the Furies sounds cool and is sort of, but the story itself it not very original. There is a chapter I had to skip over some of it because of the violence to women was disturbing, and literally the last 4 hours or so are all one long battle scene.
I was hoping for a new series to stay with, but this wont be it. Guess I am spoiled forever by Branden Sandersons Mistborn series.
Sounded fun from the description but the narration is monotonous and the story unengaging. Quit after about an hour.
I am so disappointed in this book. I have been so hooked on Sanderson's work, have read all available on here except the whole Alcatraz series and book 1 o f that was great too. I used to sit in my driveway listening unable to turn them off.
Way Of Kings I am finding extremely difficult to get into and I have slogged through about 15 hours. It doesnt hook you right into the magic and excitement like his other books. The characters are all depressed or in dark situations, and one character that opened the book has disappeared altogether. The magic is barely even mentioned, and it seems impossible to see where the story is going. In fact, I switched to a another author and only reluctantly came back to this book when I ran out of the other authors series.
I am disappointed that Sanderson apparently plans to continue with this series. I am surprised at all the over the top reviews because to me this has none of the flavor of his previous books. Perhaps the people who like it are Wheel of Time fanatics who love unending series. I am sorry I wasted two credits on it, and that there will not be more books like Mistborn.
Great combination of humour, action and Celtic magical creatures and gods. Fun and interesting characters. Fast moving keeps you engaged throughout the whole thing. Wish it was longer - stayed up til 4am listening to the last 8 chapters! Will definitely check out the rest of the series.
