I liked and laughed at the first two Tome Of Bill books, and then I got to this one. I have to disclose that I am a 53 year old female scientist - not the target audience for male aimed humor. However this one had me LMAO! I still think of Turd!, Turd!, Turd! and bust up in giggles!

I read the kindle version of all of the Tome Of Bill books first, but I had to come back and pick this one up in Audible because I wanted to read it again and I heard that this narrator was so good - and I almost NEVER reread books.

Start at the beginning, in Another Fine Myth, as Skeeve, an apprentice wizard, meets the demon Aahz. Though it's not love, or even like at first sight they form a connection - saving their lives - between them. Follow them in Myth Conceptions, as Skeeve and Aahz test their talent when they decide to take on an entire army themselves and continue on in Myth Directions. Then Skeeve finds himself alone with his own apprentice applicant, a king, in Hit or Myth and must deal with a medieval Mob!

I have always liked kids books. I also love many fantasy books. I usually prefer a dry humor, but this one is slow and I just kept waiting for the story to start. I also kept waiting for something funny. Neither happened. It is an adventure without action.

  • Hard Magic: Book I of the Grimnoir Chronicles

Jake Sullivan is a licensed private eye with a seriously hardboiled attitude. He also possesses raw magical talent and the ability to make objects in his vicinity light as a feather or as heavy as depleted uranium, all with a magical thought. It's no wonder the G-men turn to Jake when they need someoneto go after a suspected killer who has been knocking off banks in a magic-enhanced crime spree.

I love Correia's Monster Hunter books but at times they move so fast that they seem like a never ending shot of adrenaline that leaves your head spinning. I decided to give this series a shot as well. This one starts out slow and lets you get to know the main character. That I like. However, I think the darker the mood of a book, the more I want humor to balance it out. This alt universe is very bleak - as detective noir should be. The humor in Hard Magic is much more subtle. Like lightly touching the mood with a little feather of humor.

I listened for about 90 minutes and then decided to go try another book. I'll probably give this one another shot sometime when I am in a different mood.

I have watched the TV show a couple of times and thought it was amusing - but not enough to go out of my way to see. The book, however, was hysterical - and touching.

The first couple of chapters had me wondering if this purchase was a mistake. Then came the aliens and they brought the humor with them! Now I know that Wil Wheaton could be so much funnier when he cameos on the Big Bang Theory. His character voices were wonderful - especially Joshua of course.
