Rand takes listeners step by step through the writing process, providing insightful observations and invaluable techniques along the way. She discusses the psychological aspects of writing and the roles played by the conscious and subconscious mind. She talks about articles and books, explaining how to select a subject and theme, how to identify your audience, and how to write the first draft.

KISS did not become one of the most successful rock bands in history by accident. Long before they first took the stage, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley had a clear-cut operating plan for their business. Over the past forty years, KISS has sold over 100 million CDs and DVDs worldwide and manages over 3,000 licensed merchandise items. In addition to KISS, Simmons’ lucrative ventures include two hit reality shows, a professional sports team, a restaurant chain, and a record company.

I like Gene Simmons. I liked "Kiss and Make Up" and "Sex, Money Kiss". This book is like an updated version of the latter. It is truthful and to the point. One the key points that came home to me, was that most projects and business ventures fail. Being able to come to terms with this fact is very important. So is the ability to move on to the next project.

He is truthful and brutally honest, so if you are after sugar coated material this might not be for you. But overall I thought it was great.

The living embodiment of the Beatles, a musical juggernaut without parallel, Paul McCartney is undoubtedly the senior figure in pop music today. In this authoritative biography, journalist and acclaimed author Howard Sounes leaves no stone unturned in building the most accurate and extensive profile yet of music's greatest living legend. He is one of the biggest stars that has ever existed, the only key member left from the unquestioned 'biggest band of all time'.

This is quite strong on detail for his post Beatle years. Overall, it is an excellent account of rock music's most enduring star.

I can't believe how much Paul has done in his career. The story is actually is actually quite epic in its length, but it managed to hold my interest over the 26 hours.

We the Living portrays the impact of the Russian Revolution on three people who demand the right to live their own lives. At its center is a girl whose passionate love is her fortress against the cruelty and oppression of a totalitarian state. Rand said of this book: "It is as near to an autobiography as I will ever write."

I love Ayn Rand's writing. This book (like many of her others) is classic.

This audiobook lay dormant in my library for quite a while as the sound quality was not great. It sounds like it was recorded on magnetic tape which became damaged or has aged prematurely. They should really re-record it the way they did Atlas Shrugged. It would be fantastic if Scott Brick narrated it like he did for that book.

If you are sensitive to sound quality you might find this harder to listen to.

Liberals are all about love. They love poor people…as long as they stay poor. They love choice…as long as it's not in education, energy, healthcare, or commerce. They love rights…as long as we're not talking about the rights of the unborn. They love black people…as long as they stay on the Democrat plantation. So they just love Alfonzo Rachel. Weapon of A.S.S. (American Socialist States) Destruction obliterates liberal lies - from the so-called "party switch" to the money-grubbing self-righteousness of the green movement.

Move over Thomas Sowell, Alfonzo Rachel is now on the scene and sugar coating the truth is not his specialty. Confronting the myths confronting and crippling modern America this is a must read for any conservative (or concerned American) wanting to know how to get America back on track.

His insights into why the media and Hollywood have been taken over by the liberal elite are also quite brilliant. He also presents very well thought out ideas on the way forward for the Republican party in post Obama 2012 victory, because this book is the kick in the butt that the GOP needs.

Rod Stewart was born the working class son of a Scottish plumber in north London. Despite some early close shaves with a number of diverse career paths ranging from gravedigging to professional soccer, it was music that truly captured his heart - and he never looked back. Rod’s is an incredible life, and here - thrillingly and for the first time - he tells the entire thing, leaving no knickers under the bed. A rollicking rock ’n’ roll adventure that is at times deeply moving, this is the remarkable journey of a guy with one hell of a voice - and one hell of a head of hair.

Ninotchka says: "If you think he's sexy - or not - give it a go!"

I only have one Rod Stewart album, but I like music biographies so I thought I would give this a go. I was pleasantly surprised. As well as very interesting, I found it to be incredibly funny as well. At times when listening I would just burst out laughing at some of the stories.

It gives an excellent overview of his life from his childhood, to his early career with Long John Baldrey, The Jeff Beck Group, The Faces and then to his solo career. Overall it is fantastic, I have seen him interviewed but he is much more articulate in this book.

I think even the casual listener would get a lot out of this book.

Why we think it’s a great listen: You may have thought the movie was scary, but this is pure Stephen King as it was meant to be experience – performed frighteningly well by Campbell Scott. First published in 1977, The Shining quickly became a benchmark in the literary career of Stephen King. This tale of a troubled man hired to care for a remote mountain resort over the winter, his loyal wife, and their uniquely gifted son slowly but steadily unfolds as secrets from the Overlook Hotel's past are revealed.

This memoir was recently discovered and appears to have been written in the 1920s by someone who asserts that he was Jack the Ripper. This person is James Willoughby Carnac, and this memoir was written shortly before his death. It is an account of his entire life, including a few short months in 1888 when he became the murderer known to posterity as Jack the Ripper.

The narration on this audiobook is superb. But the story is fascinating as well. The manuscript dates from the late 1920's but it is unclear who the author actually is and the circumstances of the how story itself was written are also unclear but this is explained towards the end of the book. However, whether this is really an autobiography of the Ripper or a well researched fictional story, is irrelevant. It gives a clear insight into the times and the dialogue is also superb capturing the dialect of the era.
I was unsure when I purchased this but after listening to it I would highly recommend it. If you think you might be interested but are unsure, you wont regret your purchase.
