"A Confusing Mish Mash that Goes Nowhere Fast"
A viable plot with a resolution that didn't devolve into insanity.
Sadly, the premise seemed promising but the execution was lacking. Gray managed to convey the sense of confusion and madness of the protagonist but with no clear outcome, leaving the reader dissatisfied and wanting so much more.
"A Giggling, Investigative Journey to Better Health"
I haven't read the print version, so it would be unfair to compare. However, I love a book read by an author when they convey their tone, voice and meaning so well. A. J. Jacobs does all that.
"I want it, I want it, I really, really want it!" I still laugh when recalling this section.
He has a self effacing, wry sense of humor while still conveying his interest in the world and willingness to give new things a try.
I love that the author.'s wife and kids, and friends and family, are willing to "play along" when he thrusts new experiences upon them. Funny as it is, it also shows how much they care about him and the things he tries or embraces. And in doing so, he broadens their horizons, too. Not always for the best, but definitely broader!
More, please, A.J.!
"A Hilarious Journey to "Manhood""
The wry humor combined with the authors own narration.
Anything by A.J. Jacobs - they share an interest in expanding their horizons while limited by their own foibles.
The resolved intonation of his delivery and the admiration I felt at his willingness to poke fun at himself.
Joel: For man's sake, give dogs another chance!
"So Painfull A Listen I Couldn't Finish It"
Maybe comic and video game fans, though it did seem insulting to them, as well.
Predictability.
Narration came off smug and whiny - at odds with the described protagonist.
Nope. I could barely take the first 45 minutes and then had to quit.
"Lush Visuals, Compelling Story"
High, very high.
This book was so engrossing, that I found things to do that would enable me to listen without stopping. The visuals are so rich that the story plays out like a fully-formed movie in your mind. I loved the characters, the mystery and the beautifully structured story. I look forward to more of Erin Morgenstern's amazing work.
"Insightful and Fascinating Read"
Yes. Many useful and encouraging insights.
In a world where most companies now compete on a global scale, the ability to exercise compassion and care for customers, coworkers and competitors alike distinguishes a business. "Wired to Care" provides concrete suggestions and perspectives, in addition to valuable case studies. I purchased this book for our company's senior managers to read and we immediately added it to the company library so all coworkers could benefit from the material. Any small improvement in the landscape of human compassion is a giant leap forward for all human beings.
"Superb and Riveting!"
Yes, and I have. The story is compelling and complex, characters are fascinating and fully formed, and the entire book leaves you hungry for more.
Tyrion
Yes!
Can't wait to read the rest of the series! I read this before watching the television series. Though the first season series was excellent, the book was even more exceptional.
