"Constant Motion!"
I was completely impressed at the way so many characters from this series made an appearance in a way that made sense to the completion of this story. They didn't just appear for appearance sake. This story was non-stop action and constantly kept you thinking.
Without specifics it actually did both - it had many highs and lows which makes for a great book!
I can honestly say, when I started this book I couldn't imagine that this was a series finale, as there are so many characters and it is such a diverse series, but Ms. Armstrong really went all out to make this book worthy of a fantastic series!
"Donovan Caine - UGH!!!"
I was very happy when Donovan Caine left Ashland. The fact that Gin had 2 encounters with him (one in a closet and another in a car) and is still so hung up on him, makes me grind my teeth. Especially, when she has such a wonderful relationship with Owen Gracin. I am currently having a difficult time getting through this story as it appears to be gang up on Gin, from the idiot cop to her "beloved" sister cop. Gin is such a strong character, except for these issues with Donovan, who is a giant pain in the a**.
I'll keep going to hopefully put this character to bed once and for all and will write a follow-up review when I finish.
"Very heavy"
I understand that stories need excitement and momentum - and I enjoy that, but this series is all doom and gloom with no humor or light moments to break up all of the negativity.
I also hope (if I do another one of these stories) that Kita finally gets with the program and begins to embrace being a vampire on some level - it is just annoying at this point.
"Series Ended : ("
Do to all the negative reviews I read - I was almost dreading this book. But how do you not finish a series?? So now I can say having finished it - that I'm definitely glad I did! Was I thrilled with everything "No" - however, I am never 100% happy with all books, especially with so many complicated issues as this series deals with.
I do not want to comment too directly on the story and ruin it for anyone reading this comment, but I do have to agree with many of the reviews that Kiyo is someone I would truly love to throttle if given half a chance,
As for the open ending - not usually a fan, but I KNOW how I want the characters to end - so for me I can accept it.
Definitely worth listening to....
"Loved the Story"
As with the MANY other reviews, the narration was lacking and it was not John Glover's fault, as he did a good job, but on book 13 he is not Harry Dresden or any other character we've come to love. When you are listening to any series with one narrator, it is ALWAYS a bad idea to change. Hopefully, the true voice of Harry Dresden will return in Book 14. The story however, was creative and enjoyable and I am glad I listened to it.
"I Can't Get Enough of the series!!!!"
I loved this book!! The relationship with Eve and Roarke is my favorite literary relationship and this book highlighted why I care about this couple. Watching them deal with such an emotional case and how to care for one another was exceptional! Of course Eve's kick-ass style was also well represented, no matter what she has been through, she still manages to pick herself up and take care of business - LOVE HER!!
