This is a journey of both escape and discovery for four exquisitely different women, a month of bliss and privacy for four weary souls. Their refuge on the Italian Riviera provides the perfect backdrop for a story about the search for spiritual harmony within and without.

This was a great listen. It's not a book to change your life, but such a welcome relief from life! A feel good story that I will listen to over and over.

The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.

Set in contemporary San Francisco and in a Chinese village where Peking Man is being unearthed, The Bonesetter's Daughter is an excavation of the human spirit: the past, its deepest wounds, its most profound hopes. Tan, author of The Joy Luck Club, brilliantly presents "storytelling in its oldest and truest form".

I liked the book, but it was not an edge of your seat type of book. Good to learn about different cultures. Interesting mother/daughter relationship.

One choice can transform you - or it can destroy you. But every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves - and herself - while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love.

  • The Book Thief

It's just a small story really, about, among other things, a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak's groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can't resist: books.

What did you love best about The Book Thief?

The author writes so beautifully, I found myself rewinding just to hear the words again. The way he describes things in such detail is like reading poetry. The relationships that develop are wonderfully told.

What about Allan Corduner’s performance did you like?

His German phrases were spot on! A great performance.

In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue - Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is - she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

This story was very interesting and I find Roth's use of factions to be quite brilliant! My teenaged daughter and I now categorize everyone we know! This kept me on the edge of my seat and I couldn't wait to listen each day. The narrator did a great job as well.

This is the absorbing chronicle of that year.

I tried to read this a few years back but didn't get into it. The movie was pretty boring. This audiobook was amazing! I will listen to this one again and again. The author reading makes it even better because it's like she is just sitting next to you, telling you a story. Her spiritual journey was a terrific story.
