I've been a sci-fi reader for decades and haven't really delved into fantasy only LOTR. I read Harry Potter so I could discuss it with my kids but the magic didn't make sense to me.
This has started my conversion to fantasy at least OSC version of fantasy. This was a great story with lots of twists and action. The magic didn't overpower the story and mostly made sense to me.
It was well read by both readers and was an enjoyable experience. I looked forward to the drive to work and home.
Its a pity Peter Sellers died so young.
Some funny moments but it is better to listen to a Goon Show.
Very interesting stories - many sad - he's tells a good story and know the power of stories to convey an idea.
Shows that was is obvious isn't always obvious and what is a limitation can be an advantage.
Worth a listen maybe not quite as good as his previous books - but it is still good.
A great audio book read by Billy. Includes some stand up as well. I preferred the parts just read by Billy rather than the stand up. An amazing story - he has achieved so much and is still is a down to earth person, Some swearing but in context. Very funny and sad in parts - Highly recommend.
BIlly is a great comic and does some wonderful voices
The third installment to a great story. The quality of the writing and narration continues. The fantasy world is expanding and more insights are explained. If you liked for the first two this is more of the same.
A great follow on from the original story and expands the world and characters. Another great fantasy story. Looking forward to part 3. Great narrator. Recommend
I like the author's fantasy novels as they are good fantasy without being a LOTR try hard. The characters are interesting and well developed. The fantasy world's laws are easy to understand and plausible. A great listen well worth the effort. Looking forward to the rest of the series. Narrator did a great job. Recommend
Being a fan of LMB's later fantasy work I was keen to listen to some earlier sci-fi. The reviews were all good for this audio book but I can't agree. The dialog was stilted, you couldn't get into the characters the story was all over the place and didn't flow - I can't see how a long series was started from this. I love sci-fi but this was only average.
A great story, very well told. I think it was better than Curse of Chalion which is saying something because that was a great story too. Another good fantasy with no Lord of the Rings comparisons. The characters really develop thought the story and it was a joy to listen to.
Just finished listening - it was brilliant. Its great to have a fantasy story that has little or no comparisons to Lord of the Rings. The characters were well developed and kept developing throughout the story. The story itself was simple, but had complexities built-in and the world was explained very well. Lots of unexpected twists and turns. I've found a new fantasy author who is also does Sci-fi - so I'm doubly blessed.
The story could have been told in half the time. Lots of sex talk which wears thin after a while. The reader was excellent. Story was only average. At 30 odd hours its a big investment of time. One of those books that doesn't quite hit the mark.
