In her best-selling debut, Commencement, J. Courtney Sullivan explored the complicated and contradictory landscape of female friendship. Now, in her highly anticipated second novel, Sullivan takes us into even richer territory. For the Kellehers, Maine is a place where children run in packs, showers are taken outdoors, and old Irish songs are sung around a piano. By turns wickedly funny and achingly sad, Maine unveils the sibling rivalry, alcoholism, social climbing, and Catholic guilt at the center of one family, along with the abiding, often irrational love that keeps them coming back....

    "Annoying and Unfulfilling!"

The narrator is enough to make me scream! Her voice promotes my dislike for most of these characters. Alice is downright ugly and unlikeable in spite of her great tragedy. Can't say I would recommend this book. It would be like recommending someone for root canal...

This touching, uplifting novel spans decades of loyalty, anger, regret, and love in the lives of the Chance family. Each person chooses their own way to deal with what the world has become.

Baseball, Jesus and Vietnam. Who would think that a story so deep, so touching, funny, sad, could hit so many emotions, sometimes simultaneously. I was very sorry for this story to end. The narrator was outstanding. I have been talking to anyone who will listen to me throughout the entire time I was reading this story. I wanted to share it, discuss it! WOW. The first five star I have ever given. Listen to it - you won't regret it nor forget it.

Meet Yumi Fuller. A Japanese-American prodigal daughter, Yumi (aka Yummy) is returning home to the Idaho potato farm she ran away from twenty-five years earlier. Then a freewheeling hippie chick, Yumi is now a fairly responsible parent and a professor with a side gig selling lava lots in Hawaii. But can she possibly be prepared to face her dying father, her Alzheimer's-devastated mother, and Cass, the best friend she left behind?

    "Fabulous Narrator!"

I stumbled upon this book after much searching and I was not disappointed. The story was fresh and relevant in today's society and the narrator was literally a one-woman show! I highly recommend this excellent audio book!
