  • Tar Baby

    • ABRIDGED (6 hrs and 10 mins)
    • By Toni Morrison
    • Narrated By Alfre Woodard

Through a season of untroubled ease, the lives of five people move with a ritualized grace until, one night, a ragged, starving black American street man breaks into their house. And, in a single moment, with the perverse decision not to call for help but instead to invite the man to sit with them and eat, everything changes.

    S. Crier says: "Disappointing"
    "Great Book!"
Would you listen to Tar Baby again? Why?

Yes. To get a better understanding of the characters of the book

What other book might you compare Tar Baby to and why?

The Darkest Child by Delores Philips. Though the stories are different a couple of the characters from each books remind me of each other.

What about Alfre Woodard’s performance did you like?

Her portrayal of each character, how she changes her voice for each one. She never missed a beat the story continued to flow and you knew who the character was by the change of her voice. Great Performance by her, Ms Woodard was the reason I purchased the audio book, one of my favorite actors.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The secret the cook had kept about the lady of the house.

  • Fury of Obsession

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs and 37 mins)
    • By Coreene Callahan
    • Narrated By Cole Ferguson
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Dragon-warrior Venom lives in self-imposed isolation. Cursed by his toxic touch, he is deadly to anyone who has contact with him for too long. Set apart from others and hounded by intense loneliness, he craves the lasting connection he believes he cannot possess. Until a chance encounter with a sultry mortal offers a ray of hope...

    oceaninmotion says: "concrete formulae"
    "Love it...but"

I was disappointed, there was not enough about Venom and Evelyn there love story was over shadowed by all the other action happening, unlike the others books in the series these two didn't get there proper time, we got so much more with the other dragons and their mates. I wonder if the author felt her audience wouldn't except an African American female as a love interest so she kept it to a minimal. Very disappointed as there are so many interracial couples in the world and would appreciate a fantasy love story as this. By the way the narrator has the sexiest voice when reading the male part. Can't wait for the next one.

  • Fearless Jones

    • ABRIDGED (6 hrs and 13 mins)
    • By Walter Mosley
    • Narrated By Peter Francis James

Walter Mosley, "one of crime fiction's brightest stars" (People), returns to mysteries at last! Fearless Jones is a dazzling new thriller, set in 1950s L.A. and featuring the most engaging hero since Easy Rawlins.

    William says: "Laughter and suspense"
"Walter Mosley you have a New Fan"
What did you like about this audiobook?

Mr. James narration of the story was excellent, he made me laugh, I got angry and sad, I experienced all the feelings you should have when reading a good book, plus I could see in my head everything he described.

How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?

I love "who done it" type books, especially when the characters look like me, I can relate to what's going on in the book

Does the author present information in a way that is interesting and insightful, and if so, how does he achieve this?

He made you feel like you were actually there, seeing and experiencing everything that was happening.

What did you find wrong about the narrator's performance?

    Nothing. I loved his narration

Do you have any additional comments?

I'm a fan and will continue to purchase Mr. Mosley's books. Thank you Audible.
