    The pace was too slow and there really was no point to it all. I almost turned it off on five different occasions, but fought through it only to be ultimately disappointed. I never write reviews, but felt compelled to do so on this one: Don't believe the hype -- this book is average at best, a waste of time at worst.

    Dave Robicheaux returns in another Bayou adventure, this one more gruesome and gut-wrenching than any that have come before. Hurricane Katrina has ravaged New Orleans, leaving the streets and buildings flooded and the city awash with opportunists, looters, and vicious criminals. There is no order, no law. Police are shooting randomly at innocent people, prison guards have abandoned their posts, and bodies float through the streets and hang from trees.

    Of the 20 to 30 audiobooks I've "read" over the years, none have been as powerfully and convincingly read as this one. Will Patton should win something. His ability to tell each part of the story with a believable voice made the listening truly a "theater of the mind." Additionally, the story itself was a joy and one of my favorites of recent memory. I will "read" more of Mr. Burke's fiction, but I will also make it a point to find more of Mr. Patton's fine work. Outstanding.
