America is in the thrall of a full-scale socioeconomic breakdown. The stock market plummets, hyperinflation destroys the value of the dollar, and the population, unprepared for hardship, panics. Practically overnight, the high technology infrastructure and chains of supply collapse and wholesale rioting and looting grip every city. Law enforcement, transportation, electricity, fuel, and medical supplies are all in the past now, as the country staggers beneath its own weight.

Great story but still liked the Patriots more.
It does take you through what could possibly become real.
Ideas were good and I'll listen to it again in the future.

Hidden deep beneath Manhattan lies a warren of tunnels, sewers, and galleries, mostly forgotten by those who walk the streets above. There lies the ultimate secret of the Museum Beast. When two grotesquely deformed skeletons are found deep in the mud off the Manhattan shoreline, museum curator Margo Green is called in to aid the investigation.

Once again this Pendergast story keeps one listening well beyond bed time. I enjoyed the story and the characters and actually Pendergast doesn't do much in this one but allows the other characters to progress thru the story. You'll enjoy it even if the narrator is lacking just don't like his voice renditions of the characters and his Pendergast well it was actually hard to tell he's from Louisiana. Scott Brick is far better.

This first book of the Holding Their Own series, A Story of Survival, is set in the year 2015, when the world is burdened by the second Great Depression. The United States, already weakened by internal strife, becomes the target of an international terror plot. A series of attacks results in thousands of casualties and disables the country's core infrastructure. The combination of economic hardship and the staggering blow of the terror attacks results in a collapse of the government.

This is the only audible book by Joe Nobody so you'll have to get his paperbacks for the other 2.
These are really good books, exciting, well written and the story is not only plausible but I figure it'll happen one day.
The narrator does an excellent job and hope to see all the rest from this author very soon here in audible.
HIGHLY recommend this book and author.

These two authors never let me down they're always great stories and I enjoyed this one as much as any I recommend it especially if you're a Pendergast fan. I actually felt sorry for him there for awhile but as always the greatness of the character pulled himself up and became the ol' FBI agent I'm used to.
Highly recommend this book to you, know you'll enjoy it.

only got about 1.5 hours into it and shut it off
couldn't take all the I's and MY's there had to be 1000 of them just in that short time
the author gave it a good try but sorely needs experience writing not even close to people like Child and Preston or Russinovich and I think this is a weird kind of zombie story but never got into it far enough to be sure
personally I won't buy this author again
the narrator was weak at best didn't add anything to the story like a good narrator would do
I am disappointed in it usually put with alot to get into the book but this one well it's a
    STINKER!

Just a generation ago this place was called America. Now, after the worldwide implementation of UN-lead program called Agenda 21, it's simply known as the 'Republic'. There is no president. No congress. No Supreme Court. No freedom. There are only the Authorities. Citizens have two primary goals in the new Republic: to create clean energy and to create new human life. Those who cannot do either are of no use to society. This bleak and barren existence is all that 18-year-old Emmeline has ever known.

Captain Hayward leads the official homocide investigation, while Pendergast, D'Agosta, and Nora undertake a private quest for the truth. Their serpentine journey takes them into a part of Manhattan they never imagined could exist: a secretive and deadly hotbed of Obeah, the West Indian Zombii cult of sorcery and magic. And it is here they find their true peril is just beginning.

    Story

I'm not much of a zombie guy so once I was into the story I didn't like the idea of the zombie type creature[s] but as the story unfolds it becomes a classic Pendergast investigation which is always fun to follow him through. I think you'll like the book and I'm glad I ended up listening to it all the way to the end of the investigation.

It’s the near future, and thanks to a perfect storm of reckless banking practices, hyperinflation, a stock market gone mad, and the negligence of our elected officials, the entire social, political, and economic infrastructure of America has collapsed. Chaos reigns in the streets, medical treatment is no longer available, and a silent coup has placed a dangerous group of men at the helm of a false government. America’s fate is in the hands of those few individuals who have the survival skills, the faith, and the forethought to return this country to the state its founding fathers intended.
