Doc Ford's old friend, General Juan Garcia, has gone into the lucrative business of smuggling Cuban baseball players into the US. He is also feasting on profits made by buying historical treasures for pennies on the dollar. He prefers what dealers call HPC items - high-profile collectibles - but when he manages to obtain a collection of letters written by Fidel Castro between 1960 and 1962 to a secret girlfriend, it's not a matter of money anymore. Garcia has stumbled way out of his depth.

I now have all 5 of the Trail series. I have listened to 1 - 4 at least 4 times and this one twice. While the stories are really good, it is the reader that makes it so much fun. I can't explain it, but these books just bring a smile to my face. So get all 5 of them listen in the order written, you won't be sorry.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared.....

Comfortable in his new life in Deer Run, young Ruben Beeler is called away by Marshal Marion Daniels to help in an investigation of murder and mutilation north of St. Joe. That begins a search for killers and leads the men northward into unfamiliar territory, pitting them against a family of outlaws who have ruled Nodaway County since before the Civil War.

I have listened to all of the Trail series twice. While the stories a very good, it's the reading done by the author that makes the listen great. I have laughed out loud at many of the different slang terms the charters use through out the book. Hope Mr Lewis has more of these stories coming.
    I guess that I am a fan.

"You can leave the army, but the army doesn’t leave you. Not always. Not completely," notes Jack Reacher - and sure enough, the retired military cop is soon pulled back into service. This time, for the State Department and the CIA. Someone has taken a shot at the president of France in the City of Light. The bullet was American. The distance between the gunman and the target was exceptional. How many snipers can shoot from three-quarters of a mile with total confidence? Very few, but John Kott - an American marksman gone bad - is one of them...

I have been listening to Reacher books in the past. Unfortunatly; in this book it seem that any idea or thought required listing the several possible alternatives, over and over this happened and I really had a hard time completing the book. This problem really messed up a good story.

Leaving his job as trail scout for John Chisum, Jim rode to Durango to visit his sister, and fell headlong into a plot to bring a herd of the new breed of Hereford cattle from Kansas City to Durango Colorado. Mexican drug cartels are shooting up the streets of Laredo and El Paso. Somali pirates are holding three U.S. tankers for ransom. The President of the United States is fed up and, as Commander in Chief, has what he thinks is a pretty bright idea — to get hold of Colonel Charley Castillo and his merry band and get them on the case. Unfortunately, that will be difficult. Everybody knows that the President hates Castillo’s guts, and has just had him forcibly retired from the military, and now Castillo’s men are scattered far and wide, many of them in hiding.
