  • The Dark Tower: The Dark Tower VII

All good things must come to an end, Constant Listener, and not even Stephen King can write a story that goes on forever. The tale of Roland Deschain's relentless quest for the Dark Tower has, the author fears, sorely tried the patience of those who have followed it from its earliest chapters. But attend to it a while longer, if it pleases you, for this volume is the last, and often the last things are best.

Guidall's narration is mesmerizing. Have read the first six books and thought I'd try listening to the last one to savor it and make it last longer. I'm through the third disk and I'm so glad I did this. King is a master and the narration brings all my fav characters to life. Highly recommended.

Jimmy Tock comes into the world on the very night his grandfather leaves it. As a violent storm rages outside the hospital, Rudy Tock spends long hours walking the corridors between the expectant fathers' waiting room and his dying father's bedside. It's a strange vigil made all the stranger when, at the very height of the storm's fury, Josef Tock suddenly sits up in bed and speaks coherently for the first and last time since his stroke.

    "Koontz at his best"

Great premise. Left me on the edge of my seat. Have been a fan for years, and with this one Koontz didn't dissapoint. Recommended.

On a brisk autumn day, a 13-year-old boy stands on the shores of the gray Atlantic, near a silent amusement park and a fading ocean resort called the Alhambra. The past has driven Jack Sawyer here: His father is gone, his mother is dying, and the world no longer makes sense. But for Jack everything is about to change. For he has been chosen to make a journey back across America - and into another realm. One of the most influential and heralded works of fantasy ever written, The Talisman is an extraordinary novel of loyalty, awakening, terror, and mystery.

Amazingly long, and detailed story. Really liked the characters although a bit flat. Could have shortened this into a stronger story but all in all a good listen.

The first in a mesmerizing four-book original series, Prodigal Son is a brilliant re-imagining and updating of the classic Frankenstein story that only Dean Koontz could conceive. Two hundred years old, the "monster", Deucalion, is a monster no more. Literate and intelligent, he arrives in modern-day New Orleans, where he will join forces with a street-smart police detective and her partner on the trail of a macabre serial killer.

Why we think it’s a great listen: If you ever thought history was boring, David McCullough’s performance of his fascinating book will change your mind. In this stirring audiobook, McCullough tells the intensely human story of those who marched with General George Washington in the year of the Declaration of Independence, when the whole American cause was riding on their success.

Story was good but I was often annoyed with the reader - he seemed like he was drooling at times and needed to swallow.

In late 2003, in his column in Entertainment Weekly, Stephen King called The Memory of Running "the best novel you won't read this year." This glowing endorsement of the audiobook resulted in Ron McLarty receiving a $2 million two-book deal from Viking Penguin. Also, Warner Brothers has shelled out big bucks for the movie rights to The Memory of Running, for which McLarty will write the script.

The California State Assembly recently upheld the right to play porn on your in-car DVD system, in spite of complaints from parents who found themselves in awkward situations during rush hour. Then, after years of opening sexually explicit mail out in her local post office, she found a book that gave even her pause. The topic? Enemas. Then, in her mailbag, Susie hears from a man who says he loves living with his girlfriend, but needs to find some time for his "solo sex life" too.

I subscribed to this program for a month and found Ms. Bright to be uninformative, have silly guests, and to find herself more amusing than anyone else possibly could, laughing through half of her much too long monologues and grating on the nerves. To be fair, I listened to almost three minutes of this free download before turning it off - My opinion not changed.
