"Excellent conclusion to the best zombie story!"
The series is the best zombie story that I have heard to date, and Siege ranks #2.
Day by day Armegeddon, because it's another really good zombie story of the same caliber.
The excitement at the mall( I don't want to spoil the story with specifics)
In a world overrun by the living dead, man is still the most dangerous predator.
This story has everything! Great character development, drama, suspense, intensity, and thrills! Cassandra Campbell does an amazing job of breathing life into the characters. You care about them, and Cassandra has much to do with that.
"Gives Dawn of the Dead a run for its money!"
Characters fully develop, friendships deepen, and the story matures.
Jenny getting locked in the hotel room, whilst they are clearing the hotel. Intense!
Yes. She is always great, but she really excels with this series.
It made my stomach knot during some of the more intense parts.
This is my favourite book in the series. The story really gels and matures here.
"Thelma and Louise...with Zombies."
Yes! Because it was that good!
Jenny. She transforms from an oppressed bimbo trophy wife, into a badass zombie slayer.
Again, Jenny. Cassandra does an amazing job of bringing her to life.
While I did shed a tear or three while listening to this book's sequel, "Siege", I did not with this book. However, it did stir emotions because I cared about these characters. The story is engaging and at times intense.
This is one of my all-time favourite stories, and next to Oliver Wyman, Cassandra Campbell is my favourite audiobook performer. She gives the characters life and dimension, and the story is well written, rich and complex. If you like zombie fiction, this is a must-read!
"Wishful thinking rife with the American Myth."
Flag-waving right-wing faux patriots in the vein of Sarah Palin
Something from JL Bourne or Larry Corea.
Not read this hogwash!
The story is told as though the USA is the same country it was in the 20th Century, and that it will still have the same relevance in the 21st Century world. The author completely ignores our rising poverty and illiteracy rates, the conversion of the middle class into the working poor, the decaying infrastructure, the rise of China and India, the loss of our technological edge, and the myriad of other crisises that are quickly removing America from superpower status. If a massive effort were undertaken today to reverse these trends-it would take decades to achieve. Not to mention that the political will to do so does not exist. Soon China will have bigger guns than us, and that will be the end of the only thing we currently lead the world in. The author is under the impression that the USA will own the 21st century, and writes from that mythical point of view. This book is absurd drivel, and I would have made him rewrite it!
I wish that I hadn't wasted a credit on this rubbish, and anyone expecting to get an educated idea of upcoming tech advances and future political landscapes shouldn't either!
"Eskimos don't have a southern accent!"
Great zombie story!
I live just a block from "ground zero" in the story. The author accurately describes Anchorage in detail (although the Knik Arm Bridge doesn't yet exist).
I was not happy that he mispronounced several important Alaskan names, and at times his delivery was a bit mechanical. Perhaps Oliver. Wyman would be a better choice for a. Sequel.
Yes, mainly because it was about my home town!
Y'upik Eskimos do not speak witha southern accent! If there is a sequel, I suggest that the narrator familiarize himself with a Bethel accent. In fact, none of us, not even Sarah Palin!!! speaks with a southern accent! It was grating to hear two characters from anchorage speak with one!
"A fresh twist on an increasingly over-done premise"
The writing is good, the storyline is intense. It managed to creep me out a bit-which is hard to do.
The lead character. He was likable, brave, and didn't make really stupid decisions.
He conveys the emotions of the characters, and manages to bring them to life.
It was all good!
Well written, with a smart, diabolical twist on the Zombie Apocalypse genre. A must-listen for any fan of the genre!
"The series just keeps getting better!"
Yes! It is a story that has everything. Humour, thrills, suspense. And Oliver Wymann tells the story masterfully....conveying every emotion that the author put to words. He brings the characters to life.
When the heroine begins to change into her new form.
yes. As I said, he has the ability to breath life into a story's characters.
It made me anxious for the next installment in the MHI series!
This is one of my all-time favourite stories.
"The Classic that started it all!"
This is the story that inspired George A. Romero to create "Night of the Living Dead", as well as 3 films based on it. This audiobook does the classic tale much justice in that it is well presented and affordably priced. The narration is supurb and never becomes grating. If you love the horror genre, "I Am Legend" is a must-listen!
"Good Story, Bad Narrator"
While the story was good and a good follow-up to The Rising, The narrator was NOT up to the job! It was irritating and just plain unnerving when this deep-voiced man tried to immitate a scared young boy. He also fails to properly emulate characters' emotion that he was going for throughout the story. At times he reads too fast, failing to adaquately pause to facilitate character and scene changes.
