"Boring family drama, not a mystery or a thriller"
This would be one of the worst audible purchases for me. This book is supposed to be a mystery, but after the first part I completely lost interest in the story. I don't leave books unfinished - so dragged myself through to the end and found it disappointing. Don't get this if you are looking for edge-of-the-seat thriller or a gripping mystery.
"well researched mystery"
A book with it's own music album? I was skeptical at first, but got hooked on to it quickly. The songs are well written and build the type of backdrop needed to set the story in a realistic world. The story is full of surprises and the ending doesn't disappoint either. One of my favorite mystery novels now.
"Great story and brilliant performance"
One of the better Baldacci novels. I liked the production style of using sound effects and two narrators which gives a more movie-like feel to the book. The story is gripping and the plot is well laid out. John Puller's character is well developed and one really roots for him to success in the quest. Enjoyed it thoroughly.
"Interesting premise, but not the Holmes you love"
The book starts off on a great note. The female character is immediately lovable and one hopes for a great adventure with Holmes and Mary together. But the story soon loses its steam and in the end the plot is just not as intelligent as Conan Doyle would have made it. The thing I love most about Holmes' character is his deduction skills. But this novel turned out ot be more or a regular mystery with characters borrowed from the original series.
"Great detective story but very slow"
I would have loved this book if it had less time devoted to character building and more time for the actual plot. Disappointed after reading great reviews from others.
"Superb narration, but average story"
Loved the performance by David Freed. The lead character is funny and interesting and the mystery is gripping. But it gets too complicated fast and the ending is abrupt and unsatisfying. Still it is a good and fun read.
"Quite engaging and well researched story"
Liked this one better than the previous 'Dead Or Alive' in this series. Being in India, I was surprised how realistic the situations, characters and places set in this part of the world were. The story has many sub-plots and sometimes it's just too much to keep track of. But it's satisfying at the end. Recommended.
"A fast paced thriller and great narrator"
Didn't like the story and dark characters.
Takes a while to build the momentum, but then the suspece just grips you and it moves very fast. A worth read if you don't mind really sick characters.
"Dated storyline, dull plot, sick characters"
There wasn't much of the story in the book. I waited patiently for the story to pick up the pace and things to happen, but it just ended without any high points in between. The plot wasn't developed fully, and the I felt the story jumped around a lot and missed the continuity. If you are expecting a thriller or a spy-story - this isn't one. I liked the narration though - and that's what made me survive the 10-hours and finish the book.
Disappointment
"Bad narrator"
Very fast and inaudible narrator, worst one I have come across. Had high hopes but totally not worth buying this.
