  • Open and Shut

    • UNABRIDGED (6 hrs and 50 mins)
    • By David Rosenfelt
    • Narrated By Grover Gardner
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Whether dueling with new forensics or the local old boys' network, irreverent defense attorney Andy Carpenter always leaves them awed with his biting wit and winning fourth-quarter game plan. But the fun stops the day Andy's dad, Paterson, New Jersey's legendary ex-DA, drops dead in front of him at a game in Yankee Stadium.

    "Enjoyable mystery"

Interesting quirky sense of humor and attitude reminds me of Lois McMaster Bujold's Miles Vorkosigan character especially with the same narrator. Grover Gardner does an excellent job of presenting this irreverent style of writing. Flows well and doesn't contain inappropriate language or content. I only wish it had been longer.

  • Luck in the Shadows: Nightrunner, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (17 hrs and 52 mins)
    • By Lynn Flewelling
    • Narrated By Raymond Todd

Spy, rogue, thief, and noble, Seregil of Rhiminee is many things, none of them predictable. And when he offers to take on Alec as his apprentice, things may never be the same for either of them. Soon Alec is traveling roads he never knew existed, toward a war he never suspected was brewing. Before long he and Seregil are embroiled in a sinister plot that runs deeper than either can imagine and that may cost them far more than their lives if they fail. But fortune is as unpredictable as Alec's new mentor.

David says: "A really good story. (What homosexuality?)"
    "Stay away"

Read the other reviews, pay attention, I bought this on-sale and failed to read reviews first. Homosexual content! I'm embarrassed this shows in my library.

  • Into the Looking Glass: Looking Glass Series, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 19 mins)
    • By John Ringo
    • Narrated By L. J. Ganser

When asubatomic physics experiment causes a massive explosion, interdimensional gateways open in Florida - and aliens pour out. Some intend to bring Earth to its knees. Others seem willing to help, but will annihilate the planet if Navy SEAL Command Master Chief Robert Miller can't stop the menace from spreading.

Mike From Mesa says: "Great space opera, but a warning ..."
    "Interesting and imaginative story"

I very much enjoyed this book as with most of John Ringo's writing. I didn't care for the condescending attitudes towards Christians but I have to assume that came from his partner in this book since I haven't noticed it in his other work. I appreciated the physics details and the reasonable way they were introduced.

  • Gust Front: Legacy of the Aldenata

    • UNABRIDGED (25 hrs and 34 mins)
    • By John Ringo
    • Narrated By Marc Vietor
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

In this, the sequel to A Hymn Before Battle, Captain Michael O'Neal and his forces on Earth prepare to hold back an impending Posleen invasion.

Charlie Lightfoot says: "This is CAN of Military Sci-Fiction Woop Ass!"
    "Awesome military sci-fi"

I've read the whole series and enjoyed it all. I don't care for the use of profanity but it is appropriate for the situations rather than gratuitous. Well thought out plot lines that come together exceptionally well.

  • The Phoenix Endangered: Book Two of the Enduring Flame

    • UNABRIDGED (17 hrs and 12 mins)
    • By Mercedes Lackey, James Mallory
    • Narrated By William Dufris

Tiercel, a budding High Mage, and Harrier, a reluctant Knight-Mage, develop greater power - and learn of the evils of war when they see the devastation caused by the fanatical armies of the Wild Mage Bisochim.

A User says: "Give the kids a break!"
"You should only buy if you enjoy constant whining"

I enjoyed the first book of this series and immediately bought the second but the constant whining of the two main characters has finally overwhelmed my desire to even hear the end of this book much less listen to the next. Their inability to face the reality of their circumstances was maddening. Save your credit/money. I wish I had.

  • Mistress of Dragons: The First Book of the Dragonvarld Trilogy

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 8 mins)
    • By Margaret Weis
    • Narrated By Gigi Marceau-Clarke

Here is a world where men and dragons coexist amid political intrigue and dark magic, where the uneasy balance of power between the two is on the verge of becoming undone, threatening to unleash waves of destruction that will pit humans against humans as well as dragons against men for the domination of the world. Humanity's very survival is at risk.

Laura says: "What a great story!"
"I don't enjoy reading about rape"

I read/listen for enjoyment but I was terribly disappointed when this book went in this direction. I have enjoyed reading Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series and was looking for other fantasy books when I tried this one, but this one was a real let down. I wish I had seen a review like this to warn me before I bought this.

  • All Marketers Are Liars: The Power of Telling Authentic Stories in a Low-Trust World

    • UNABRIDGED (4 hrs and 20 mins)
    • By Seth Godin
    • Narrated By Seth Godin
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Every marketer tells a story. And if they do it right, we believe them. We believe that wine tastes better in a $20 glass than a $1 glass. We believe that an $80,000 Porsche Cayenne is vastly superior to a $36,000 VW Touareg, which is virtually the same car. We believe that $225 Pumas will make our feet feel better, and look cooler, than $20 no-names...and believing it makes it true.

Oscar says: "Just OK for me."
    "Good concepts, poor focus"

I bought this book expecting some insights into marketing and at first it seemed to be delivering until the author got on his liberal soapbox and started preaching. I didn't necessarily disagree with everything he said it just wasn't the correct venue for this dialogue

  • Dark Matter: The Private Life of Sir Isaac Newton

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 32 mins)
    • By Philip Kerr
    • Narrated By John Lee

Skillfully weaving history with mystery, Philip Kerr sets this thrilling story in the 1696 Tower of London, where Sir Isaac Newton, warden of the Royal Mint (a post he actually held), and his apprentice Christopher Ellis (also a real person) track down a counterfeiting ring and, as the body count increases, a murderer. "An illuminating, often crackling exploration into the mysteries of science, mathematics, religion, and human nature," raves Booklist in a starred review.

Jim says: "A cracking Yarn not a biography!"

The premise of this book was intriguing but the execution was very disappointing. The author could have had an interesting Holmes and Watson style mystery but he substituted crudeness for cleverness. Do not waste your time listening.
