Bryce Courtney creates such vibrant and flawed characters. It is so easy to become acquainted with them and their world. Loved learning about London during this time period and later Tasmania/Australia. Harsh times but seems very accurate. Great historical fiction novel.
The attack on Mary by the male workers....the extent of human cruelty.
His accents and voices for each character are awesome. I could listen to him for hours and hours and have bought may Bryce Courtney audiobooks for just that reason. Prefer the audio format instead of text for these books, and Humphrey Bower has a lot to do with that.
Hawk. His soul is made of solid gold, all the way to the core. His size and appearance are so striking that he is one of the most unique characters I could imagine. As I have also listened to part 2 and part 3 in this series, I have gotten to know more of Hawk, so this book is just an introduction to his character.
Love these long complex stories and I just love getting to know Bryce's characters. These books (Potato Factory series and anything by Bryce Courtney) would be interesting to so many different types of people. I highly recommend them to anyone.
Unique presentation of classical history that we all are familiar with, but with outrageous humorous twists. I thought it could be offensive to some, but I just don't see how as it makes me laugh and laugh. First half is hilarious, and second half is a little more slow paced and obscure. There is just nothing else out there like this.
Unique...nothing like this. I have tried other Christopher Moore novels, and those are the most similar, but this audiobook is like no other.
The closest type of story I could compare this to is Forrest Gump....the way history is woven into the book or explained by the book is so entertaining.
Other Christopher Moore novels. I think this is his best and Biff is his perfect character!
Biff. How could you not just love him! Honest and selfish but a true loyal friend.
I listen to this at least once a year. I can't think of any other audiobook that I refuse to remove from my library after I am done. Never gets old...
The suspense of what would happen next and sharing the characters' fear and anxiety.
The travels in the car from place to place helped keep the book moving.
Great voice and really portrayed Judas well.
Beware what you purchase on the internet....it may haunt you!
I did not want to like the characters in the book. I had very little in common and did not want to feel empathy for them, but Joe Hill is a talented author and can pull you in and makes you get to know these characters. You end up cheering for them throughout the book. This was a nice short audiobook that me and my daughter could listen to during a weekend trip. We looked forward to traveling in the car so we could listen to more. Addicting. Looking forward to more novels by Joe Hill. Chip off the ol' block!
