Someone looking for a reason to believe in something illogical.
Yes, I loved his description of his medical condition, and how the infection ravaged his body and brain. That part was great!
Description of his brain infection
I can't believe in God. I'd love to ... and did most of my life. I would LOVE to have anyone show me proof. This book proclaims, "PROOF OF HEAVEN!" ... So, I tried it. But, sorry to say, as in so many other books, there is no proof here. People who want to believe, will believe. I want to, but not badly enough to ignore logic. I believe there is a mystery, something we do not, and perhaps can not understand. A great secret of death. As I grow older, and closer myself, I seek to find something I can believe. Some proof that human consciousness transcends physical death. Something that proves that we are more than the chemicals that make up our physicality. However, I can not believe in a fairy tale. I'm afraid this book is just another hopeful story about heaven.
Too much wise-cracking and NOT enough action … A disappointment! I have enjoyed the books preceding this one. Easily, ⅓ of this book could have been shaved off. I am not pleased with the result. Of course, Scott Brick is always an excellent reader. Not his fault. Hey, maybe you people like this characters CONSTANT stupid jokes. Not me. SCORE: 100 dead terrorists, 500 lame wise crack jokes.
An odd mingling of low brow comedy, frightening prophesy and condemnation of the American system, (probably well deserved) I don't think any of us can foretell the future, and whatever really happens will be a big surprise to us all. However, it's fun to read this authors vision. The narrator is really a "kick".
I loved this book! I'm a big fan of "LONESOME DOVE" and I enjoyed this one just as much. This book is very different, but still, a western. A GOOD western is a rare thing! This is a good one.
The narrator is so good I have been searching for other books he's done. He is a new find too!
5 stars for the book and the narrator.
WARNING: Zusak's other book, "The Book Thief" is one of the finest books I've ever listened to. So I figured, "This is also by him, it must be pretty good!". NO! ... It isn't at all good. A big "who cares?" story about a dumb 19 year old kid who delivers important "messages about life" ... It's fatuous. Some might like it ... But it does not hold a candle to "BOOK THIEF" ... Not even close.
An amazing life story. Told in a way that kept me enthralled from beginning to end. Loved it! 5 stars all the way!
I am a big fan of The Mitch Rapp stories by Vince Flynn. However, this one is appalling disappointment. The chopping of the story makes very little sense. the narrator refers to things that were never included in the first part of this abridgment. Don't waste your credit!
Really ... Awful!
Plus, the narrator is NOT Carrington MacDuffie! He did narrate the first 30 minutes of the book, (and the preview) but then an unknown woman took over. (I had to stop listening after about 3 hours) She is not bad, ... okay, but it's not as advertised.
No matter who narrates, the story is full of teeth clenchingly annoying characters who could never exist in any possible human reality. This book is asinine to the max degree. Garbage!
ps: I have actually enjoyed a few other works by Coben in the past
The author is a "word artist", who at times can describe situations so vividly, that you can really feel you are there. The words used to illustrate the water funnels were so powerful that my blood ran cold. Also, the narrator is wonderful, and helped this book be all that it could be as a spoken piece.
I LOVED this book! It reminded me a little bit about myself as a kid. (OH, my POOR parents!) I am afraid to think what I might have done if I'd been living and young in this day of guns and crack. I think this book did a terrific job of expressing the anger of the kid, and the hopeless loving ineptitude of the parents. Very well written, and very well read. I was absorbed from the biginning, and hated to see it end!
