I have listened to the first three books in the series. I really enjoyed the first two books (A Game of Thrones and A Clash of Kings). A Storm of Swords wasn't awful, but by the end I wasn't really interested in listening to A Feast for Crows, mainly because it wasn't (originally) read by Roy Dotrice, who does a great job narrating, and reader of the other version had really bad reviews. Once this version with Dotrice narrating came out, I decided to give it a shot. I wish I hadn't wasted 34 hours on it. Dotrice's voice acting was pretty good, but there were times (often in the same paragraph) where he would, for instance, pronounce a character or location's name one way and say it differently in the next sentence. He would sometimes change a persons voice during one conversation. I just seemed like he did it solely because it was a paying gig and not because he actually wanted to. Since I think the problem with this book is the story and not the narration, I would listen to another book read by Dotrice, but I'm done with the Song of Ice and Fire series.
It didn't go anywhere. Chapter after chapter of nothing. Random characters that aren't apparently related to the story in any meaningful way. There was probably only about 10% of this story that was interesting to me. The rest of it was just endless blathering. Except for a couple key events, this book does not progress the story of the series at all. The first half of it seemed like nothing but characters reminiscing about events in the first three books. If you had never read the first three and started with this one, you would have a pretty good idea of what happened in the other books.
Without giving a spoiler, the part where one of the people you want to get what's coming to them gets it. It's at the end, so if you want to hear that part, just listen to the last 3 hours. It'll save you from suffering through the other 31 hours.
I would cut all the pages out and put different ones in there with an interesting story written on them.
Don't bother with this. Save your money/credits for something entertaining.
