"Bad Narration"
I read this series and looked forward to listening to it. This narrator ruined the story. One voice and a lisp too! - I am glad to see the narrator was changed for the 2nd and 3rd book in the series so I am looking forward to hearing those. I recommend reading the paper copy and skipping this audio.
"A true 10!"
The tenth Myron Bolitar and it is great! Steven Weber is an extraordinary narrator. The combination can't be beat. Be sure to get the unabridged version. Each subplot is fascinating on its own.
"Great Narration"
Ms Rosenblat does such an exceptionally fine job with the narration. She brings life to the characters and keeps you wanting more. The story is not action packed but it slowly unwinds the story of a mother and daughter that makes you mourn for what could have been. It is a good listen. I would recommend it if you like life stories.
"Poorly written"
This book is so poorly written that it is painful. I have enjoyed Fielding in the past but this one misses on all counts. The heroine's lack of self esteem is tedious and at times overwhelming. The author's constant use of the heroine talking out loud to herself and mixing it with her dialogue with other makes it very hard to follow. Don't waste your money on this one.
"A sour note"
I always enjoyed the sharp wit of Phillips' books. Unfortunately this has a decidedly mean streak to the writing. It is hard to warm up to the characters as a result. The narrator's sing-song reading is difficult to listen to for long periods. While no one can replace Anna Fields, there are many narrators that could have made this a better listening experience.
"Politics trumped"
This book has a lot of characters. None are fully developed but they are introduced at just the right time to keep you interested and thinking about the twists and turns of the book. I would not rate this a great book but is entertaining to listen to on a drive to work. Worth a listen.
"Twice as good"
Great! Weber was the perfect narrator. I listened twice and enjoyed it just as much the second time.
"Not as good"
If you are used to the Barbara Holloway series with narrator Anna Fields, it is a real disappointment to here his narrator's interpretation. She really makes Barbara seem a bit of an air head. I really can't even finish this book. I am going to move onto one of the novels narrated by Fields.
"Disappointing for Bernhardt"
I have followed the Ben Kincaid series and have enjoyed them. This was a bit too lurid. It really needs to be abridged with emphasis on the interesting twist to the who dun it. But a LOT less sex and violence.
"Definitely worth it"
This book is very entertaining - intricate without being too complex. You will love this one if you like richly drawn characters and settings.
