"Love It...."
For anyone who likes historical romance, you have to give Georgette Heyer a try. Her books are so well written and so accurate to the period, they are easy to get caught up in and hard to put down.
This one is not her typically romance and most of the plot is dedicated to the mystery of who is trying to kill The Earl of St Erth. But the book is so well written and the characters so well developed, that you are quickly engrossed in the story. What I lover about her books is that all of the characters seem so real and their actions and motivations are believable. The stories, on the surface, seem simple, with her stout, level headed, and even tempered main characters, but then you realize subtle mini dramas that play as the backdrops for her stories are masterfully blended to create a final product that is dramatic, vivid and intriguing.
Only bad thing is the books end too soon...today I am spoiled by epilogues.
One other note to the reader/listener, most know, but some do not: these books were written in the 1920s and 1930s so you are not going to get the overt sexual references that you read in most romance books, if that is what you are looking for in a romance novel, Heyer may not be for you, bu if you like historical romance, you should try one of her books...I recommend Frederica to start.
"Each Book Gets Better...Great Series!!"
I am hoping that books 1 and 2 will be coming to Audible soon, but if not, I would recommend reading them first and then buying this audio book. I am a huge fan of paranormal romance and these books are great. This is a continuation from book 2, so it is not really a stand alone story.
I was not prepared to love Demetrius as much as I did by the end. He has been a pain in the neck in the past 2 books, and I was not sure how sympathetic and forgiving I was going to be. But he had his reasons and this book really made me his fan.
I loved Isadora from book 1 and 2 and it was good to see her get a soul mate.
This book has great characters, a good plot line that arcs multiple books and is well written and well paces. I highly recommend the audio book if you can read book 1 and 2 first.
"Excellent..."
I have already listened to this twice. It takes a little while to get used to since it is a different twist on the shifter human relations then you see in most paranormal books, but that is what makes it so good. The characters are excellent, well developed and likable. Bishop does a good job of establishing and explaining the world for these characters. The story is engaging and keeps you listening and wanting more at the end. I already cannot wait for the next book to come out.
"Excellent!!!"
If you are anything like me and were a little worried for the series after the last book, fear no more. This one is really good. We finally get to see Blay and Quinn get together (and it is everything that I was hoping for) and even the arcs setting up future books are engaging. I am now eagerly anticipating the next book in the series. If you have read and enjoyed the other books in this series, I sure you have already purchased this one, if you have not read any of the books, I cannot recommend them enough, you are in for a treat.
"Wow...another great book"
If you like the night huntress books, you will enjoy this one. I finished this one in one day. I cannot wait for the next book.
"One of My Favorites"
For anyone who likes historical romance, you have to give Georgette Heyer a try. Her books are so well written and so accurate to the period, they are easy to get caught up in and hard to put down.
Of Heyer's books, Frederica and the Grand Sophy are my favorites. The story is fast paced. The characters are well developed and likable. Frederica is a wonderfully strong heroine. The duologue between Alverstoke and Frederica is excellent and funny. This book is a wonderful mix of romance and comedy.
One other note to the reader/listener, most know, but some do not: these books were written in the 1920s and 1930s so you are not going to get the overt sexual references that you read in most romance books, if that is what you are looking for in a romance novel, Heyer may not be for you, but if you like historical romance, you should try one of her books
"Good but not Great"
I have read most of this series and really enjoyed it. When I saw the audio books released, I thought that I would enjoy listening to the series as well. The fact that I have read and now am listening to the series, should tell you enough about where i stand on my recommendation. But I do want to note that I think this book and the series are slightly different from most paranormal romance books. There is a certain whimsical nature to some of the characters and plot lines, a la the Kerrelyn Sparks' books. It does have darker moments, but it is also fun...perfect summer listen for vacation.
"Really, Really Good!"
I am a big fan of her other books and I really enjoyed this one. The writing is good, the story is good, the characters are well developed. This is similar to her Glass and Study books, a touch of romance, mixed with fantasy and a bit of paranormal. (I'll read from that shelve all day) The story starts strong and does not let go. I was up half the night listening and waiting for a good stopping place. I totally recommend this one... the only bad thing is going to be the wait for the next book in the series, but I will not mind re listening to this one when book two comes out. Enjoy...
"Entertaining ...But..."
The story was good enough to keep me lisening, but the main character was frustrating...making the same mistrakes over and over again, she was hard to like..but the Jamie Campbell character makes up for it, he was a great hero and you really rooted for him, Bottom line... I will listen to other books in this series, but I am not rushing out to buy them right after finishing this book.
"My Best Book of 2011"
I LOVED this book. I cannot recommend it enough. Everything about it was spot on. Stop reading this review and just add it too your cart.
